Aluminum phone dials but those could have been switched out for the fuch's at any time, again no manual black plastic mirrors but those could have been switched out. Does you car have the factory black steel strut brace bolted on welded brackets right above the engine on each strut tower? I think the vin # X over thing is weird especially since it looks like it was even lower I think 0012! Maybe you should check with Porsche on that old # and see what comes up. Next to the windshield vin# looks like a Key tag that would have been in the dealer packet when that car was delivered!
Anyway I think if you could find out if it has undercoating below the door line on the sills of the car, and under the chasiss that would help, also what kind of carpet is in your car or if there is sound deadening material and glue under there.

The quickest way to find out what is going on is to try to find that option code sticker with the vin# option codes, paint codes, interior codes etc....... Under the rear hatch carpet or on first page of Warranty & Maintanence manual which is with Owners manual! Its definatly an unusual car I will give you that.

No option Code Decal on the car anywhere , no owners manual .
Undercoating below the Doors but not underneath.
Regular carpet and sound deadening
What about the 1984 emisions decal under the hood ?

What are you looking to get for it? Does the car run? What does the engine look like? It has low mileage but who was the previous owner? Do you have documents and receipts for history of car? What about suspension does it have the KONI sport shock option and bigger sway bars? Does the car have LSD? Maybe a picture of the dash and seats to see what kind of shape there in? These are all very important things buyers and I would love to see to be able to give you an idea of price and value for an interesting car like this because Porsche was a small company and when they changed parts for cars on the next model year they just kept using the leftover stuff on the line until it was all gone. Basically they didnt use the next newest parts until they used up all the older stuff. Thats one reason why everything has a date stamp on it, this saves lots of money, NO WASTE!

Porsche kept the first 80 vin #'s for themselves and didnt get rid of them UNLESS sort of thing!

So it looks like they rebadged an '84 chasiss into a 951 for SOMEONE? That is the key here finding out why it was done and until you can do that its just another 951 with NO Records and a story but dont they all!
I dont want to sound rude here so I will check around to try to find out some similar low number vin's that match yours but it will take a little while!

I did a vin decode and it shows its a forced induction '86 model year Porsche 944 but I dont want to pay the car-fax fee so here is the link and it shows that there are 6 different entries. I have done a lot of these and sometimes they go back to '86 but usually they start around '88 or '89 as earlier than this there was no computers around and someone would have had to enter several years of info on a car into the car-fax database or one that car-fax pulls from. Since you have owned it since '90 it might be able to tell you something!

Yes it Runs, i have owned it since 1990 !
No history before that ( bought it at a Auction )
Several parts on this car do not have any stamps on it
A regular '84 chassis had a different windshield than this car
If you find something similar , let me know

Seattle here is a car I like and you might have seen it as he has been trying to sell it for weeks. After you think about it though it is just a regular old '86 turbo that was deliverd without a sunroof which is rare but they are out there. No LSD and it has burgandy interior, its lower mileage but looks terrible because it was most likely stored outdoors and has had some shotty at best work done it looks like. So the rims, color, and sunroof delete are all your buying here. Maybe $4000 because we all know that a car together is not worth the sum of the parts installed!

There were 178 Rest Of World 944 turbos labeled as 1985 model year but I dont think you have one of those at they would show a ZZZ # on the title and it would be a grey market car with no side marker lights in the rear or front bumper cover!

But what about that '84 vin # that was xed over that car shouldnt exist anymore right!

Or could your car originally have been that '84 NA car here in the US until someone who wrecked or destroyed that vin # 951 just switched everything into that car before 1990?

Does it look like the front fenders have ever been removed? The factory applies a glue under the fender before they mount it so in order to remove 944 fenders to install 951 units you have to cut the glue away and unbolt?

The Mystery continues .....
Why was the Keytag never removed ?

Well if it was someone like Holbert, Brumo's, Baker or such they had the proper channels through the factory to do these sorts of things. Although highly unlikely!
