Charlie, did the Callaway product use the IHI turbos? If so, I know they are often a small turbo and would indeed spool early. I had one on a VW Golf back in the 80's. Thing used to get along quite well.

Yes, Callaway did choose the IHI RHB6 turbo for its low-inertia wheel for quick spoolup. It is physically larger than a K26-6 both on turbine side and compressor side. IIRC it is equivelant to a 20G turbo size wise. Most of the early spool was a result of having the turbo on the 'right' side of the engine hanging right off the exhaust manifold.

The IHI RHB5 however was a smaller model and was popular for smaller engines 2.0L or less and on some motorcyces.
