3.0L build documentary
Well I'm finally in a position where I can afford to begin this project!
My intent is to keep this thread updated, but this project has JUST begun so there probably won't be many updates at first.
Here is my plan:
Block - 944 S2 block (MID sleeves, 106mm bore)
Crank - 3L crank (knife edged, balanced)
Pistons - Wossner
Rods - Pauter
Head - 2.7 (Turbo exhaust valves/valve springs)
Turbo - Vitesse Stg V
Engine management - TecGT
Misc - I/J crank scraper/windage tray, larger injectors, LEDA coilovers, Dynatech strut brace, Elephant Racing polybroze spring plate bushings, semi-solid engine mounts
I am COMPLETELY open to any and all advice while completing this project so please feel free to drop any info into this thread. I'm also upgrading the suspension as well to (more than likely) KW3s and will be putting big blacks up front.
As of right now I'm running SFR Stg 1 headers and will be upgrading to upgrade to the Stg 2 unit. I also have the 2 piece xover pipe so hopefully all I'll need to change is the short pipe.
The engine will be built by Chris White.
Tomorrow I begin the hunt for a block. If anyone has a good lead the please post here or shoot me a PM. Cylinder condition does not matter.
Here is the car that it will be going in (original engine will be kept and stored):

The block is toast along with the oil pan Crank looks to be in good condition but will be sent off to be measured. Not sure if I will sell the crank or keep it as a spare at this point.

Here is my initial plan:
Block - 968 block (MID sleeves, 104mm bore)
Crank - 968 crank (what modifications are recommended for the crank?)
Pistons - Wossner
Rods - Wossner
Head - 2.7 (I'm going to have porting and polishing done)
Turbo - undecided as of now
Engine management - TecGT
Misc - I/J crank scraper, S/M catch can, FMIC (looking at the SFR unit), larger injectors (currently running 55lbers)

Turbo: Holset HX40 super ( or similar twin scroll one ) You'll need customized engine mount and intake, but it's worth the job.
Injectors: You'll need at least 83 pounders...

See Sid's thread about twin scroll and go for it too. You already have those SFR headers, so that's easy to continue with. Merge WG pipes together just before the WG ( TiAL 60 ).

If you're going to use a 3,0l block, why don't you go directly to 104,50 mm Mahle pistons from Andial?

I'm going with the Wossner pistons for a couple reasons, but mostly because Andial doesn't have any sets in stock and when I talked to them, they weren't making anymore soon. The Wossners are also a tad bit cheaper and will be easier to work with as far as custom work goes.

I've seen quite a few successful builds with them and they come highly recommended from Chris White.
Already have SFR Stg 1 headers for the 8v head and plan on using my current intake. Plus I don't want to have an intake manifold custom made.

If you decide to go to stage II headers, let me know FIRST, as I may be willing to take the stage I's off of your hands.
