Ok here's the dyno of engine no 1 that died during an overboost to 27 psi.
This dyno is from when the engine was still in Markus' car.
495 rwhp at 1.3 bar (19 psi) pump fuel. Engine no 2 should be able exceed 500 rwhp at lower boost.

My 3.0L is in process. Depending on the economy, I might have it running sometime in 2009.

89 2.7 block
89 2.7 head
Andial/Mahle 104.5 turbo pistons
Arrow rods
94 968 crank.
TEC GT electrics
VRStg5 turbo still needs to be purchased.

I'll be assembling this myself.

The biggest ones, AFAIK. They are also transferred to the racer. As a matter of fact it's now on it's wheels, waiting for a new paint.

Might the 968 pulley actually have no impact as a harmonic damper given the presence of the dual mass flywheel ?
As Shawn says, this is exactly correct, but I don't believe the late 951 had a harmonic damper - the factory only installed these on the 3.0L cranks.

Regarding crankshaft failures, my crankshaft guy told me he has seen 3.0L cranks fail in racing applications. His fix is to grind a wide radius for the journals and nitride to help with surface stresses. He said with those improvements that the vibration damper is optional - I'm still going to run a S2 damper in my 968T race car!

I added a quick and dirty summary table in the first post, for the running cars. I'll update if people want to fill in their details and/or correct the mistakes.

damper is on the S2 engines only, not the 968. I checked my stock pile!

Locally very popular dry liners come from Valmet tractor engines...

So how critical can this be if Porsche decided the 968 didn't need it?
