Yeah, like I said, thinking about turbos too much really spins my head. It's not like I don't enjoy thinking about cars (do I think about anything else?), and it's not as if I can't handle thinking technically or mathematically (I am an aerospace engineer) but for me some topics just get dreadful past the surface. I've done a lot of reading though, both on typical setups and the basic theories of how changing a turbo will affect the car's characteristics. It boils down to the fact that I only want 325-350 hp and that with a 3.0L I can easily achieve that with low-ish boost. Also I will not spend obscene amounts of money on a turbo, maybe around $600. So my choice is pretty clearly a k27.

I know, not exciting, not cool! Just wait... this project will have some surprises. I know yours will be nicer in every way though so don't hold your breath regarding that!

Yep, k27 will work. K26 6 too small, K26 8 maybe 300+ hp, K26 10?

K27 will allow you to go to maybe 450 hp(tuned really well at 20psi maybe 500) probably. BUT, will it flow well down low at the range you want? What turbine wheel size, A/R? and compressor size? Someone on this board can answer those question.

Turbo build update: Found this nifty device for about 20$. Machined aluminum with 12.9 bolts and graphite gasket. Has 1.6mm restricting hole on inside. Hole is not reemed on the output side and I may do this after checking spray pattern. Anyway, easy way to restrict the oil flow to turbine and keep pressure up in the engine (rather lose a turbo than the engine)

I have one of those but with a full size hole for my Vitesse, its a nice part.

what is a full size hole? 4mm? How is your oil pressure? I was thinking of 2mm.

Its just whatever the ID of the fitting is, -3 or -4AN.

Itll depend on your turbo if it needs a restrictor or not.

Personally on a 3.0 with a decent flowing head... GT3582 minimum...

Too big for his power goals. PERFECT for what I'm building. I'm stepping up to that turbo in March. Tial Turbine housing .82 A/R. S compressor wheel.
5-550 all the time power.

he only wants around 400. GT3076R is perfect, but I wouldn't go any smaller than the .82. That motor Flows my man. Don't under-estimate the backpressure from high velocity heads into a small housing. Still wouldnt suggest a T4 housing though.
Also, I saw you threw in a $1500 turbo price tag. Get the Dual BB Garret for that price. You will have 15psi at 2800 rpms or less with management.

it's not the Alusil bores that are restricting you. my best guess is the stock pistons. I wouldn't trust them past 350@the wheels.

Well it really depends on the A/R, a .8X A/R would spool very well on a 3.0. A GT30 seems to be the turbo of choice below 2.5lt motors in the rice world, and have seen them produce massive power. I think the HP goals of 400 will be found VERY easily. My 10 year old 4.0 taxi motor from Japan made 331 on 5psi.

well the standard 968 pistons have proved to be good to at least 400whp the only failure we have seen has been at crazy boost .I am thinking of taking the oil from the head on my S2 turbo motor as it will be at lower pressure

Perhaps you just need a lie down.

Well, if I could find a .82 ar T3 housing to fit my stage 3 wheel, I would be set, but I can;t and I don;t really want to drop 1200 on a new turbonetics turbo (or 300 on a Chinese turbo...although I have thought about it)

chinese turbo's last for a long time if an oil restricter is used, they mostly fail because they can't handle high oil pressure.
