Default 18" Cup 3 Road Wheels pirce check

Guys, a quick question.

Brand new OEM 18" Cup 3 Road Wheels going for approximately US$1,200 (€810 for European rennlisters).

17" Cup 3 Road Wheels for US$1,100 (€750)
Without tires.

Is this good, fair or expensive?

Thanks

I think this is a good price. I have seen pretty beat up ones for $600-$800 locally (Virginia).

If they are true Porsche OEM then the price is good. If they are replicas made "at the same OEM factory" then the price is high.

Exactly, Cup 3, is the name of the Mille Miglia, copy wheels. They are much heavier than the OEM equivalent Turbo Twist, even the solid spoke wheels.

I have seen the replica wheels as low as $595 in the US, for new wheels.

993 Turbo Twist Hollow spokes are an expensive wheel. $1200 is a typical used price, in excellent condition.

Those wheels are being sold by a reputable Porsche parts supplier in the UK.

I will contact them, to make sure that those wheels are OEM. Because, they have another wheel category, but its says "OEM Replica".

Spoolin51, you asked "How can I tell if my 993 wheels are hollow or not?"

Hollow spoke wheels whether 993 or 996 are smooth on the backside of the spokes. Solids have a couple of grooves. The part numbers also indicate which ones they are. The valve stems are also special to seal the hollow cavity. The stem is all metal and there's a large stainless steel washer next to the rim. The easiest way is simply to run your hand behind the spoke to feel if its smooth or not.

I have a set of 996 hollows for sale, plus a couple of 993 fronts and a rear 10" 40 offset. 996's are slightly heavier than 993's. I prefer the look of the 996, however you have to run spacers on the front, and you can't use the plastic center caps, the rears at 11" and ET45 are hard to get in without rubbing.

Hosrom, all oem wheels have a porsche part number, so if they are genuine they will have a 993 part number. Mille Miglia cup3's are marked on the back. Aftermarket wheels also have the jw logo cast into the outer rim which is a giveaway. OEM 996 and later wheels have the width and offset cast into the outer rim either side of the valve stem.

If they are truly OEM and solid spoke then they are a fair price, if they are hollow spoke then they are a verey very good price. I have done a lot of research on wheels over the years, in my opinion the 993 hollow is one of the best wheels out there. The weight matches or beats many of the very expensive aftermarket wheels. Being OEM/BBS and hollow they are also stronger than many for the equivalent weight. They make a great track wheel, light, strong, cheap, and easy to clean.

If OEM Porsche, price is good. If clones it's average

Dare I say that they sound different when you rap them with your knuckles. Knowing what each is meant to sound like is a different question...

Good to know. The wheels that came on my car say "Cup 3" on the back and are made in Italy. They seem pretty light, but I don't have a OEM Porsche wheel for comparison. Anyone have the weight differences?

Here are some wheel weight comparisons, these are for 993 Turbo twists, ie the wheels pictured.

18X8 fronts Hollows-20.8lbs, OEM Solids-27.0lbs, Mille Miglia Cup 3-28.6lb
18X10 rears Hollows-24.5lb, OEM Solids- 29.0lbs, Mille Miglia Cup 3-32.7lb

Alternatively 996 Turbo Look II (twists)

18x8 Fronts Hollows-21.6lbs, OEM Solids -27.0lb

18X11 Rears Hollows-26.4lb, OEM solids 32.8lb

All on the same scales. There is always variability wheel to wheel etc, but the comparison is valid in my opinion.
