I have a Tec3r with knock controle function, I don't use it. The car is tuned well and I don't do anything stupid with it. If I run high boost I run high octane.

I agree with you logic completely, but even at lower boost what happens if you get a bad load of gas, what happens if the injector on one cylinder clogs and doesn't deliver the fuel, what happens if you get a real hot day and the intercooler can't keep up and your intake temps drift up too high while you are blasting around?

Any and all of those things can happen so in my opinion a bit of extra insurance is worth it.
