well now that the full story comes out.
I would rather find a 50-60k car with meticulous maintenance records and babied by the previous owner for what your going to do. Rather than buying a car with 10k with no records because it does nothing but sit.
My previous 928 had 120k by the time i got rid of it. The thing was immaculent! leather smelled new and everything worked as it was supposed to. Id be looking out for an **** seller of a really nice car rather than a collector peice

1985ruf I don't wish to sound condescending but how old are you? Have you owned many prestiege marque vehicles? What engineering/wrenching experience do you have that is hands on? Why twin turbo? There is no need on a four cylinder engine.
I always loved the female body if it is well looked after, doesn't mean I had to settle down with Claudia Schiffer or Heidi Klum though.
Come on 1985ruf this is a wind up isn't it, come clean!!!

Tommo951...what would you like me to come clean about? Nothing to hide other than me wanting a 951T with low miles. I am 31 years old and know my way around cars. I own a 1985 930 EURO RUF with 4k original miles. I just want another low mile car so I can drive this one every weekend and just do some simple mods like exhaust or upgrade the turbo...the reason for the 2 small turbos (if you can be done) is to eliminate turbo lag. The KKK isnt all that great so if I upgrade the turbo you think it'll be better? I have to admit I am not a professional mechanic but I can pretty much fix my own problems...just not engines. Can someone help now that I've been honest?

Ok, so then I am going to ask again, Do you only want low miles for the idea of it? Is it worth the extra money to you to look down and see a low reading? Or to be able to say it has such low miles?

yeah twins on a four cylinder have been tried and tried- not much advantage. Ive seen two really small turbos on one before but they proved to be about the same as a good single. Find the car you want- be it low milage or otherwise- and im sure you'll decide you dont need two. The RUF sounds awsome.

I don't understand this fascination. To me, you really need to skip the low miles hunch. Extremely low mileage vehicles are reserved for people who are looking for a RARE car, not a low miles car. I'm sure I could find a pinto with less then 2k miles on it...doesn't mean it's worth much. Why do you think there are so many low mileage '70 Chevelle SS LS6's? There's a market, and those cars are RARE. They bring huge money for a popular Chevy.
To me, a 951 is NEVER going to be a collector car, or one sought after even in another 15-20 years. Why? Too many damn 944's. Even the S2's. I have a '91 S2. Pretty low miles car, extremely clean, extremely well taken care of...and I didn't put a fortune in to it to get it. I have much less then half invested in my car then you plan on spending just on the purchase price. For what? To have 40-50k less miles? I could see the low mileage thing being a priority if these cars were rare, but if you want a collector car, try and find a low miles S2, especially a '91. A low mile '90 or '91 is going to be much more rare then any turbo could ever be. I honestly have never seen a 20k mile S2. I have seen numerous 20k mile 951's. What does that tell you?
Low mile 951's are dime a dozen compared to S2's. You need to get something no one else has. Cus in the end, when you pull up to the guy in the 100k mile immaculate 951, and you in your 20k mile 951...all you'll have on him his 80k less on the clock.
I could see someone capitalizing big time here. Take the cluster out of your 951 (preferably a blue one), roll it back to 22,391 miles...then sell it to this guy. He won't care, as long as that cluster says it.
Find a nice 50-60k mile example, and be happy with it. You CAN find stock, mid to higher mileaged 951's, you know.

but isnt it more fun to get a Turbo S rather than a S2? I know the 1991 S2 are rare but isnt the turbo much faster and fun to drive? What is the hp difference?
Ok so getting a bigger turbo doesnt do much to increase the hp...so then what do you guys do for mods? What are the usually hp gains that you recommend me doing? I think the turbo only has 250 hp correct? Do most of you get chips or exhausts? superchargers? what do you guys recommend?
Thanks again!

you are going to destroy it. the whole point of buying a low mileage car is that it is pristine and almost-new, and presumably a sane buyer will keep it in that same state, as a collector's piece that will sit. that's where the value is in those cars - as everyone else has said, if you want one to actually drive there are much better options out there. once you go and molest it with your pie-in-the-sky twin turbos then you are going to destroy it's pristine state, which was the thing which gave it value in the first place.

Anyways I came up with the perfect solution for you. Get a real nice car with 60k+ miles on it. Get one that has been well maintaned and looks like new. Then take a piece of tape and put it over the odometer. Write what ever your dream number is on the piece of tape, that way when you look down you will see the number you want. The best part is it will always stay the same, and you will save a bundle.
