Where to get a duplicate key?

I don't have a spare key and I was wondering if and who can make a duplicate?

Most home improvement stores can make keys. You'll end up with a key with a head that looks like a V'dub one.

944online carries the factory banks and new key heads also. Plus they're a site sponsor!

plain steel ones are also available in most places

Got mine lighted one off of ebay.. may sound stupid, but it's came in great use several times. Went to home depot and they said they couldn't cut it... I asked why, and he said "We just can't."-wtf?

The third time a teenage girl at the local hardware store finally did it, fits perfectly and goes in smooth.

Neither Lowes or Home Defunct could cut mine, had to go to the been-in-buisness-for-50-years local place to get it cut old school way. Works great! Just ordered a key blank and head from pelican parts I think, and kept the el' cheapo key that the car came with as the spare.

$34.95!!?? No way Jose, I found two places nearby that do Porsche keys, so tomorrow morning I'm going to go there and get at least 2 or 3 duplicates, I found out that each car manufacturer has a designated key based on their shape and design, Home Depot does not have a Porsche key, these guys do, it's P1 and P2 one of the locksmiths said....

Leave it to the mom and pop family owned businesses to solve problems modern day stores can't... God bless em!

I had one made for my old 83 at osh and they couldn't do one for my 951

Cory9584 12-16-2007 02:44 PM

thats weird isnt an 83 key the same as a 951 key?

Keithr726 12-16-2007 02:57 PM

No early NAs used the VW sourced round key that had a crest cut into it while 85.5+ used the lighted key head.

What I ended up doing was taking the unmade key to ace hardware where he cut the key buy hand. Because it was cut by hand and therefor not as accurate as a machine it was free. He said there'd be a 50/50 chance it'd work and it did so I'm satisfied.

Cory9584 12-16-2007 03:14 PM

but isnt the key itself the same, just different heads?
