We let several years ago a very good parts producer modify stock WG's. He reconditioned WG's completely and added some new parts he made for us. According to him 951 WG is still one of the best he has ever seen. What is even better is Audi RS2 WG, which is almost identical to 951 original. It has dual port chamber installed at the factory.
Some pictures from our modified WG's

I've had my one apart and diaphragm out and made flanges to hold it together ported it lapped the valve set it up on the bench at 13psi it happily runs 22 now
and after all that i think the dual port change over is the way to go if its not big bucks

There is a fundamental problem with the stock wastegate though - that is the cast aluminium body is prone to cracking. Mine was like that, cracked all the way round the valley between one of the cooling fins, so I lost my core charge when I bought a LRDPW, which made it quite an expensive component compared to Tials. When I queried Paragon who I bought it from, they said that although cracks like this are not unheard of and seemed to becoming more frequent - so it could be a heat cycling thing over time.
The beauty of the Tials is that the body is CNC machined from billet aluminium so i'd imagine they would be much more robust and less prone to cracking.

Olli, would the Audi one fit our cars? I know a German guy who says his Dad has a 951 in Germany with an Audi 3.7L engine in it. I'm trying to get more info out of him.
My tial jammed shut and I saw over 30psi at the track with a helmet on and couldn't hear the engine trying to explode. Lucky to drive home that day. Have a LDPWG since, no probs.

I have found that a stock unit is sufficient if a large enough hotside is used. I personally have a T4 .58 P trim.
The backpressure in the crossover has a lot to do with opening the valve prematurely.
I like the dual port idea however. If I start seeing it open w/o boost pressure I will do this too. Im all about budget stuff.

Patrick,
Audi RS2 unit is quite close to our units. Most likely it will need modification though. I can check it out from one guy whose hobby is RS2 Audi-Posches. I suppose 930 WG's chamber is close RS2 one.

That is not my RS2, i wish it was... RS2 series were built by Porsche to Audi (opposite what comes to our cars...). It was only available as station wagon or Avant as Audi calls them. Porsche made engine totally new; it had 315hp from the factory. It had Porsche brakes, wheels, mirrors etc. A little bit over 2000 cars were built between '92-'95 if i can remember correctly.

Ok here is the inner parts of the stock 951 wastegate. As you can see this wastegate diagphram is shot ! 20 years of age and plenty of use , will wear most rubber type parts. I know I should be able to rplace the diagphram and possible stiffin the spring. Drill holes all the way around the ring housing and bolt it together ? I think it will work. I am really surprised nobody started modding these wastegates years ago. Seems they could have done pretty good charging 100.00 and having a superior wastegate (dual gate at that )!! Please help me find the diagphram. Thanks

Danno was messing with rebuilding wastegates. Eyal sold me one and it showed up with a cracked base. I tried swapping the base out but I could never get it to work right. Gave up and bought a Tail.
