Default My first dab at Youtube. A bit of hillclimb.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1e4Rj7joYjg

Had a few traction issues as can be seen in the first in car shot showing steering wheel/gauges etc. The first corner is actually a fairly hard accelerating uphill lefthander which should be taken flat out. First run and I've got a handfull of opplock which was a good wakeup on a Sunday morning....NOT!
Unfortunately the event was shut down when a guy in an open wheel special had a big moment at that same corner and flipped the car. 3 Ambulances and many police cars arrived. We weren't allowed to go up the hill to see what happened but hopefully the guy was alright. If you see in the second run, he spun where I had my opplock but he must have grabbed and then shot back into the left hand side and flipped. You should see how fast some of these guys go in their dedicated specials. Some people are doing about 35 secs. The really quick road cars are doing mid 25 sec's plus. These open wheeler specials are down as low as 19 sec's so you can imagine just how fast these guys are going. I got a 28.33 but couldn't get as good traction as last year where JET951 and I got into the 27's.
Anyway it's a challenge.
PS I must get my steering wheel straightened.

Gt: You should try some hillclimbs. They're really good fun. Actually a bit scary due to the trees etc being so close.
Anders: Now you know what we have been feeling all this time watching LHD cars!
ST: I needed more traction today and wanted a few more runs to go faster. After the left turn that was so problematic today, there is the kink that should be taken flat out. Last year I was 3rd and even 2nd. This year I could have snatched 4th with the extra power and shorter gearing. You guys should try this format as well as all that 1/4 mile stuff. This is sort of somewhere between racing and dragging. Lots of fun and gets the heart-rate up!!

Looked pretty straight for a hill climb Patrick , the one's over here are all 90 degree and hairpins as they wind their way up the hill. At least you managed to get into 3rd gear at some points and the car sounded nice and mean.

Actually I could have snatched 4th through the kink and would have tried this the next time but for the unfortunate crash of our fellow racer. What is not really obvious on the film is how off camber the corners are, which makes going flat out just that bit more interesting!

What was that creaking at the end of each run? brakes?

Cool vid; I don't believe we have those 'round here...

I think the creaking you're referring to is all the solid suspension parts. Quite possibly the Elephant Race Polybronze springplate bearings. There are a few squeaks and groans in the car now but that's what happens when you change out the rubber parts.

Mike,
The camera was at the highest point in the car for the 2nd run. I can mount it on the windscreen with a big sucker thing too. I would like to remove the rear vision mirror actually as that really obscures the image but I'm wondering if there will be a next time depending on what happened to the guy that crashed...

My monoball upper strut mounts used to make that creaking noise on occasion. I find that if I shoot them with some silicon spray or wd40 once per month it keeps it silent.

Yes David it is a lot of fun and very challenging. Need to up the Cohone level at times too. Not much runoff area as you can see.
Thanks KLR, I'll have a look at that.
