Ahhhhhh - I follow.

Well I can say I spent hours scraping salt off of the tow rig and car after four days of salt events.
Then about $15 at the local power wash. Yes the salt can be a bear to deal with. Especially if it is wet.... when it dries it turn to a concrete like material. The 951 was not horible, but the truck got **** everywhere. Back bumper was nearly full.

I also hand washed and spray waxed wheels daily. Stuff is very sticky.

OT, but one of my favorite movies is, The Fastest Indian. Those of you that haven't seen it, should do so. Salt Flat top speed runs using a 1920's home made Indian motorcycle. Anthony Hopkins does a great job starring in this movie.

That is just nuts! You got to have a big set of ***** to hit those speeds on that type of unstable surface. Kudos to all of you guys!

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't think I'd have the stones to go through with it. Way to go 2bridges!

Hey, are you going to Renntreffen this year?

That's awesome. What is the conversion again for slip experienced due to the salt? 10%? I forget, but it allows you to convert to a "would-be" asphalt track to give you a point of reference.

neat.

George -- can I come?

Yes many salt racers use a +10% wheelspeed to calculate pojected actual speed. They also generally make much more power and are on a skinny 4" treadwidth tire for stability.

My car did not seem to experience too much spin at the top with 245 or 225 tire.

Don't have any data logging and had my hands full so I was not able to know exact rpm through the timing lights. Think the highest rpm on last run was about 6,000rpm. in 5th on 225/50/16 tire and 8" wheel. My math indicates I shoul have been running about 158mph and timing showed 156.99.

2bridges...representing 951's strong!

From the tricks you performed to gain speed, it sounds like you have done this before? Are you now officially the "Fastest" 951 on the salt?

Way to go!

Thanks Bill! nah I was a salt rookie. And as much as I would love to claim "fastest 951 on salt" - not even close I am sure. In fact the mild modded turboS (exhaust, chips, etc) had one run of 158mph, faster than my fastest 156.99mph..... without any of the antics we did to get it done.

Maybe, just maybe, the fastest true street, gaurds red, k26/6 turbo'd, 951, from Nebraska, on the salt ..... maybe ]

- Do it man! be well prepared and it will be a great time.

From my experience and discussion with USFRA staff and racers - skinny well treaded tires (speed rated of course) perform best. I would not prefer "slick" or shallow treaded type tire. Also a taller tire may be beneficial from a directional stability perspective. Don't know how fast you want to go, but the 150 club is an awsome way to get a taste of salt racing without building a dedicated car. - What are you waiting for ... DO IT!

__________________EDIT____________________
For refrence - I ran two tire setups
Hankook RS2(front and rear) 225/50/16 & 245/45/16 - 42psi front - 40 psi rear
khumo MX tires (front)205/55/16 with Hankook(rear) 225/50/16 - 50psi front 50 psi rear

Certanly do-able - but really can be a handfull until track dries out after numersous cars have run. Also a handfull late in the day - track gets a bit loose and rough.

Also I ran an LSD trans. After the experience I am glad I went ahead with the trans swap.
