Default tensioner stud (eccentric) / auto tensioner assembly question

Putting back together a 1988 turbo motor that had the auto tensioner assembly (I think it bolts to 3 studs on the block IIRC) but I would prefer to use the 86 style tensioner stud if possible.

Do I need to be aware of anything short of buying the 1986 roller/stud and installing? Are all the blocks the same and can you interchange this part easily?

Thanks,
Sam

Sam, you may need the spacer that goes on the stud which sits against the oil pump, which extends the eccentric roller out. There has also been some discussion on whether or not early oil pumps vs. later pumps, that face on the oil pump was machine down further for later cars which used a bolt through the large hole on the oil pump. If you have an early oil pump and a later one there together, measure the housing where the hole is. You can use washers if you have to but they have to be the same size as the back bearing surface of the eccentric tensioner.

I should have some of the early studs/spacers etc if you need them, you know how many motors I've been through!
