Two items

One- I think the rubber hose is a good solution if it had a thermal sheild on it. That is a very hot exhaust spot.

Two- Do a search for the NAPA part number for the sensor. Try my ID with NAPA as the search words.

My reasoning for thinking the rubber hose will be fine is because the water in pipe has the rubber hose right there as well. Obviously that is cool water going in as compared to hot water coming out, but the water is not in the hose for a very long time so it should be fine (at least for a while). I'll definitely keep an eye on it. I may try to run some sort of heat sheild as well.

Here is the napa part number: ECHFS158. It most likely isn't something the store will have in stock, so they'll probably have to order it and get it in a day or so.
