I've rebuilt many alternators when I was too cheap to purchase a reconditioned unit. Best to use the belt to hold the pulley still ie.

1. Install the alternator and place the 5 rib belt on the 6 rib pulley.
2. Tension the 5 rib belt to hold the pulley stationary
3. Undo the alternator pulley nut and remove the 6 rib pulley

Repeat this process to install the new pulley
Thanks! I will give it a go.

I just may do that. Lots of great material in this thread but I missed some stuff reading through it the first time. Be nice to have a concise how-to with some of the great input found here.

I told him there were a lot of us who would want this mod and he told me no problem he would source and install the pulleys for us! Very nice guy and fast shipping. Great price too for the upgraded high output unit with better bearings. I needed for my laser beam head and driving lights, plus big stereo. I have something else you need, will send you a PM.
Thanks Eric!

Does anyone have a picture or diagram for the wiring? There was a drawing at one time but Eniac's pics are gone and he no longer has them. TIA

Here's a pic of the jumper. The blue wire in the alternator harness connects to the other small terminal.

If you want a factory look you can order the Nissan connector, the link was posted somewhere in the beginning of the thread. It is less than $15 delivered. I never asked, but I bet the E-bay seller has them as well. I also would run a new 8-10 AWG wire straight to the battery positive from the output, with a good quality car audio fuse or C/B.

How much $ was the CEP bracket?

$325. Includes all new bolts, washers, etc. Tucks the alternator up and in and closer to the block for more room than a ground-down stock bracket. Also enables you to drop the alternator right in, no grinding or modifying of the alternator to fit.

I am all about saving money but if I had to do this again I would buy the CEP bracket. Installing this thing by grinding is a pain.

OK, and the CEP is for the 1996-98 Nissan Quest 125amp alternator? Thanks, Mike

Good thing about the CEP bracket is that if you want to go to dry sump at a later date the pump hangs off it too.

lol..thanks guys. The motor as you see it currently has the head off and just awaiting new Cometic 106headgasket. Large bore but 2.5 water jacket. Stupidly forgot that little detail when it was decided to change this and the bearings before re-installation. Once that's all buttoned up, it will finally go back into the car after many years absence. With the smaller alternator and dry sump pan we could lower the motor quite a lot...but that is a whole other project. Maybe one day.
