Max life has additives to swell the rubber gaskets and reduce oil leakage..put 20w-50 max life in and you'll be fine

The VR1 oil is darn good oil - Ive run nice valvoline oils (mostly VR1) in a 300Z turbo all its life that has 280000 miles - still no sludge - still on the same turbo, lifters, everything. It was a good motor to start - but I know that it's good oil too. Ive been running it in my 944 with great sucess. If you are worried about sludge because the VR1 doesnt have as much detergent - install a bypass filter and enjoy having constantly clean oil.

LFA951- I know 10+ years later on this post, but just checking if your engine has blown up yet on the cheap oil and leaks. If so let me take the car off your hands.

If not, then I will switch over to cheap oil too. We can all learn from your answer either way.

Lol!!! Way to rub it in ten years later Luis. As far as oils go I use regular 10w30 Castrol GTX in my daily driver 944’s and I use 20w50 miller oil in my turbo. Regular oil and filter changes are necessary regardless of what brand. You may want to stay away from the K&N oil filters if your engine is even a little dirty inside. The number one cause of oil break down is oxidation. The higher the RPM’s the more frequent the oil changes should be.

I use Mobile 1 European Car Formula 0W-40. No issues with leaks. Did some research on oil and actually found a 5 page paper talking about oil and what to look for and why. Ton of good information. From what I read, its more about flow than anything. I watch how my oil pressure gauge and see how it is responding. VR1 20w50 is what I used to use before switching. My pressure gauge responds similar to the thicker oil. So far so good.
