Well... right now I am changing the Spal fan back to the 2 stock ones. It needs some welding so it will take some days. The stock fans is very powerfull. I have some tuning left with the fuel but it will soon be finished. Then I will raise the boost to 22 psi and then increase the ignition. I do log all my runs. and I want to be sure there is no knocks.

When this is finished I will change to ethanol and my Bosch 1680 cc injectors and get the real power...

By the way... I have also passed the yearly emission test!

Why did you go back to the stock fans (and radiator?)? Any news from Magnus?? I may be interested in some of the other products he makes?
PM or email me if you have any news.

Just the fans, they are a lot more powerfull. I will of course keep my custom alu radiator that is twice the stock one. I will mount the last things today.

I talked to Magnus yesterday and he is doing all he can to do your parts.

earlier you mentioned to switch to E85. Did you use special injectors or fuel pumps or do you flush with gas from time to time?

Yes, soon I will switch.

No I dont flush with gas. I use VP MII that lubricates when using alcohol fuels.

Bump Corleone. What is going on with that 3.0L over there. Any new progress?

Yes! I am now at the final ignition tuning and still on Shell V-Power gas. In a couple of weeks I will change to E85. The 95 lbs/h injectors is at 100% with 3.5 bar fp. Afr is about 12:1 at wot. I can run very high ignition without any knocks, I am listening for knocks with earphones now. At 7000 rpm and 1 bar of boost the ignition is at 35 degrees and 31 degrees at 1.4 bar of boost. With 1.3 bar of boost the injectors is at 100% at just above 6000 rpm so I cannot run moore boost for now. I have reved 7700 rpm at the most and it sings great at these higher revs. It seems that the power is a bit over 600 now. The only acceleration numbers I have for now is when I am looking in the stand alone log. 100-150 km/h is about 2.8 seconds and I think this can be better with the right fuel, E85. I have a calibrated speedo signal into the stand alone so thats why I can see this. I will soon run some 100-200 km/h pulls. My old 2.5 engine did it at 7.1 with E85, this engine is a lot faster already... time will tell...

Corleone,
my question would be:
is there not a point where more ignition advance would give you less power (forget about knocking; let's just say the engine never knocks)?

I would be interested to know how much more power you achieve going from 25 degrees advance, to 35 degrees advance, at, let's say, 1.2 bar boost?

What is your compression ratio?

I have discussed that with my "enginefriends" who runs engine dynos and also develop several factory racing engines but it seems that max power is very near the knocklimit at gas. With E85 it seems to be some different. Even my engine will knock at some point, I think I am near now. My ignition timing seems relevant compare to my previous 2.5. The 3 liter have bigger cylinder diameter and longer stroke so the ignition should be higher. I also have a pretty tuff camshaft. The head have some modifications with the squish area to prevent knocking. Our engines needs a lot of ignition to be aggresive. I have tested moore boost and less timing but it dont just work.

I have not test yet in any any dyno but I can tell there is a lot of difference in power when you raise the ignition. You just have to know how the curve should look like. That I know now!

I have almost 10:1 in CR

"The 3 liter have bigger cylinder diameter and longer stroke so the ignition should be higher."

Yes, I thought so as well.
But, here in America the general consensus is that the 3.0L will detonate easier, so tuners use less timing than the 2.5L.

"I have not test yet in any any dyno but I can tell there is a lot of difference in power when you raise the ignition."
So, how much would that be, given the same boost?

10:1 compression is alot of compression on a turbo motor!

Thanks for the updates 'The Don!' It sounds like this car of yours is going to be very quick. I am curious though, why did you elect to go with such a high CR ratio? The only other time I heard of someone doing that (and Im not a history expert here too, just curious) was when Bob Howard had his 2.6L built by Norwood. He too had a 10:1 CR in his 600+ BHP beast.
