What's so special about this turbo?
HELP!
I need to know what's so good about this turbo. It's been rebuilt and it would go onto an '86 944 that's internally stock but does have an aftermarket boost controler and Weltmeister chip set. The FPR is new, and I will do the bearings and reseal it when I replace the turbo. The injectors will be rebuilt or upgraded? I need your....

I second that. It's impossible to tell without seeing the wheels. Who rebuilt the turbo? Just FYI but, the Majestic built "cheater" turbo I had awhile back (never used it) actually turned out to have a Garrett Gt28R or Gt28RS compressor wheel installed on it (that was what made it a "cheater"). Similar sized to the K26 compressor but, it flows a bit more. Sorry, don't really know why I posted that. I'm a bit bored at the moment.

Just a pic of the compressor and exhaust sides should show the wheels clearly enough that most of us should be able to immediately tell if it's stock or not. Also, I believe it's on the exhaust housing inlet (it might be on the exterior, can't remember) there is either a "6" or "8" cast into the housing, which denotes whether it is a regular turbo (6) or turbo S (8). Either will bolt right up to an S or non S, though you might need to change chips if you have a non S 951 and if this one is an S turbo.

I took a closer look at the original pix and found these numbers.
Starting at about 8 o'clock, the 1st group is as follows; C 5326 101 5068.
The 2nd group is; 181 (L) 226.
... any help?

The hot side which is the black side of the turbo, it will have a couple rows of cast numbers on it toward the exhaust gas exit. Anyway just to the left of those numbers there will be 1 lone number hanging out in the breeze, this is a 6 or 8 that will tell you what size in CM# that the hot sides voume is. I have included a pic of my spare k26/8!

If you take housings off you can use a caliper to get the diameter of the compressor wheel (exducer and inducer) Using those numbers and a count of the blades you should be able to determine what wheel it has. Porschefile is correct in that the number 6 or 8 will be stamped on the internal portion of the exhaust housing (in the hole just a little ways from the flange) showing the size of the exhaust housing.
I see the tag says 86 944T which to me means it's a K26/6 - if it came off a stock car.

Solo,
Duh on me! I believe the guy that I'm buying it from wasn't intending to use it on his 911, and he's likely not going to ruin his reputation on any BBS. With that said guys, is it worth 300 bucks?
