Default Engine builder in southeast *** Now project thread with pics*** UPDATE 2/15

Any good engine builders in the southeast who wont take 12 months to build a run-of-the-mill 2.5?

Update 1/22/07 ^So much for THAT idea...

You should speak to John at Vitesse he is down in Georgia and knows a lot of people. Otherwise there is Albert Broadfoot down in Florida who seems to have a good reputation. As I am in UK I would normally not answered this Q but it seems nobody has given you any names

Broadfoot is closed, and I'd never deal with them.

I would contact John at Vitesse and see who he recommends. Or I have a 951 long block for sale

Albert shut down Broadfoot Racing, but I can assure you he is still doing business. New business name is Autosport. Sold him some parts a couple weeks ago. With that being said, they had/have some serious customer service issues and until they are back on their feet again and prove themselves I would look elsewhere.

It might behoove you to pay shipping and have it rebuilt with any of the reputable rebuilders here.

what do you want done, what do you have to go in/on it and what is your timeline? Do you have new pistons and rings, head studs, all the bearings, seals and gaskets? Basic rebuild is sorta vague, if, and I mean if your bores are straight, doing an Alusil finishing pass(es) with new rings is not the proper thing to do. Most likely the bores have a slight egg shape to them and require boring and finishing - this is the key point of info needed - then you can find oversize pistons but they aren't cheap, and of the 8 OEM sets of 100.5 left in the world, they're $1695 plus shipping.

Humm, good question? I've researched and dealt with several builders now. Without a doubt stay away (sorry to say), from anything to do with Broadfoot Racing with this new ownership in place - no proven track record. You could reach out to John @ VR and ask him, as he may know a few engine builders down his way. Or, and this is some food for thought as Michelle said, think about sending it out to a quality builder that you know his reputation and trust. You could always drive the car there and leave it. If not, pull the engine and send it? Not sure if that's an option, but, I'm just trying to brainstorm for you. If you do send it out, may I suggest Chris White to ya!

I had asked John "I'm doing a head gasket replacement, and while I've got the head off I want to do a valve job.. do you know of any local machine shops that you'd recommend?" -- his response was "Sorry, no idea on who does good machine work."

Not many around here who are known for 944. I agree with the Chris consensus. Crate & ship it. Look into BAX Global for shipping. I've found them to be reasonable & efficient.
