Easy way to wire keyless hatch pop

This is quite easy and it works well.

Gently pry the hatch pop switch in the footwell out.
tap into the blue and red wires: see pic
wire relay: see pic
grab a beer: see refrigerator

does this pop the hatch at the same time it unlocks the doors?

That's a whole lot cleaner then the way I connected mine up. For some reason the button stopped working when I hooked mine up and it took some funky wiring to get it going again.
It's awesome to be able to just push a button on my key dongle and have the hatch magically open though.

:o Never mind; I went and did a little reading on how this works. That trick does make it easier.

bump. sorry it took so long, no it doesn't unlock any doors just the pulse to run the hatch motor, but yes its quite nice to be able to pop from the key now, i ended up blowing a few fuses trying to do it another way and so i just started from scratch and it works great.

i still dont get it

its really simple, all you have to do to make the hatch pop is touch the red wire to the blue for like a half second. So you can either just touch the two wires, :) or use a relay to do it. The way the relay works is in its normal state, (the magnet on the bottom is not active) the red and blue wires do not touch, but when you send ground from the alarm and activate the magnet, it pulls the little connector inside the relay (line in between the dots in the pic) down to where it connects the red and blue for however long ground is applied (1 sec for most alarms)

People do not understand that you are using an alarm/keyless entry system that sends the negative pulse to the relay to pop the hatch. So you can open the hatch with a remote. I did this on my old blue S2, it was nice. Wiring into the door lock controller under the column is also really easy, that's where I hooked up the keyless entry. With a good system you do not even need relays for the doors, the keyless module mimics the signal from the key microswitch in the door lock.

O I GOT thanks sorry for the confussion.

chrly924s 12-03-2006 11:57 AM

:) This is going to be SWEET when I get that working. Ever try to get several bags of groceries in a 944? You gotta put them in the trunk and finding the keyhole under that spoiler can be tricky!!! :)

mortymower 12-03-2006 02:57 PM

hence my motivaiton for this thing in the first place, and when its cold my key sticks which really makes the porsche look high class when i cant even open the trunk :(

Thanks for the write-up, I've been wanting to do this as well.

Couple of questions:
- What relay did you use? P/N?
- Where'd you get it?

Thanks again.
