Ferrari has an abundance of colors though, so paint to sample isn't needed most times. I am going to look for the offerings on the F40. The most original in my opinion is rossa corsa...Ferrari master minded the red car.
Well you can do your homework on Ferraris, but I know my stuff when it comes to them. Having owned/own several and have numerous friends who has vintage too, paint swatches have been around before 1990. Case in point my friend. You will never, ever see a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO in Silver, unless it is a repaint. I know the owner of that car who is from Mexico and had it made just for him. So matching swatches pre-dates 1990. And with Masaretti being on the same production line, I know for a fact that it is a $5K option.

EDIT: My pal Guns, Ill wait to get the email and will reply tomorrow. We have tons to talk about pal.

All F40's were sold in Red. Ferrari refused to paint the cars any other colors. Pininfarino in Torina did the alternate colors, or aftermarket painters after the car was delievered. Searched every Ferrari forum, Wikipedia, and others. Paint to sample was not offered in 1990 through Ferrari, you got what they offered. I didn't think it was the case, as other colored F40's are never sold for near that of original reds. You can back me up on Ferrari Chat, Ferrari Live, Wikipedia, Google Search, and thats all!

Wrong. But you win. Just like you think its costs $10K to paint an F40 in mint to concours condition? Good luck pal..

Just in case you doubted my F40 experiences, this was one of the very low mileage examples I got to toy around in.

Whats wrong, that paint to sample wasn't available or that Ferrari painted the F40 in other colors other than Rossa Corsa? I can validate the F40 colors with ease, and the paint to sample could possibly be wrong. That was based on a forum post by several people, so that could be incorrect. I am not trying to doubt you, it was of interest to me so I looked it up. Also in all honesty, repainting a Ferrari is no more than repainted a Porsche, Chevrolet, or Ford. I would have no problem tearing one apart. Infact, Ferrari's paint from the factory is never all that spectacular. I've toyed with several 360's, 355's, two 430's, two F40's, an F50, a Dino, and a couple 328's. I am as well fairly familiar with Ferrari's.

I would also like to clarify after reading my previous post that other Ferrari's such as 308's, 328's, 348's, Mondials, etc were available in a very large variety of colors. The F40 was only available in Red over Red and Black. There were no variations, with a price tag of $500,000. I also have no interest in arguing this mute point, but it is valid when looking at a white F40 as to its originality. Clearly evident its a repaint and not original making it significantly less valuable unless you were in the market for a white F40.

Wes

Edited after your post above - you can take the prize! An F40LM, F50LM, amongst others takes the prize. Thats a hell of a collection. I don't doubt your knowledge, but I just wanted to clarify a question asked about the colors of F40's.

You win, you are now crowned the King of Ferrari knowledge. I surrender to you. Have a good night, and dream of prancing horses. And actually thats a F50 GT1, not LM. Technically speaking. But I bow down to you. Nite.

Yikes someone doesn't take a counter point very well...I will stay out of the 951 forums as there is no room for debate in these forums.

Norword built back in around 1989-1991 a 308GTS QV with a Haltech system.

As far as the Ferraris I've driven? Where do I begin? How about a short list for now, ok? Starting from the first one that I own.

1978 308 GTS (Tom Selleck's Car)
1962 GTO
365 GTC 4
246 GTS Dino
275 GTS
308- 328 GTS/QV
348 GTS (total dog)
Testarossa 89 -1992 (TR)
1994 512M
312 PB (rare car)
512 BB
512 BB LM
84 288 GTO
87 F40
355 F1
360 F1
550 Maranello
575 F1
Ferrari-Momo IMSA GTP Car - (Had a Cosworth then a 962 Engine)

Dream Cars To Drve:

F430 F1
Stradale
Enzo (I may have a chance)
Enzo FXX (yeah right!)
GT 50 F1 (yeah right!)

Hows that list, enough? Ive been a memeber of FCA and a Ferrari instructor for over 15 years. Hope that helps. And for the record, for me, the F40 is still my favorite in the world! Just wish I could have driven the LM version. BHP ranged from 650 to 900 depending on turbo config. Go to my web site, I have a video of a French driver taking one for a test spin on the track.
