Default carbon fiber hood and or sun roof (anybody got them?)

I was thinking it would be a cool project to build a carbon fiber hood and/or sun roof. I have built some sail boat parts with carbon and it is relatively easy to take a mold off an existing part.

Has any one done this?
Pictures?

Is that also a LeMans style rear spoiler I see on Randall's car? If so where can they be purchased?

I'd also like to know if you can buy both and how much. Also, how much weight was saved with that hood?

Dave Moffit's car had one - I hated it, looking at it, opening it, working around it. Really floppy and not a great fit - by the time you do a littel finish work it would have to be painted - and then I bet that would crack in short order.
In case you were still wondering - I didn't really like it....

Why's that? The new Z06 has one and it doesn't have any problems that I have heard of.

LOL. Whatever Plenty of people do without problems. It's not the greatest idea without hoodpins though. Other than that, it's a pretty quick, simple way to loose a significant amount of weight (not really all that important on a street car though ).

As far as finish goes, that's understandable. CF tends to "yellow" after being exposed to UV rays for awhile. I believe there are some sort of UV resistant clear coats that can actually prevent this, though, as I have seen some CF hoods for various other cars that don't yellow. Lastly, these cars were meant to be driven....who cares about cosmetics. j/k

You talking about Andy's car? If so, saw it at 944 fest '05, and that hood looked pretty good. I didn't look close enough to qualify it as 'show worthy', but from 5-10 feet it looked better than my stock hood.

Quick Reply: carbon fiber hood and or sun roof (anybody got them?)
