Default KW suspension systems.

I'm looking at the KW suspension package varient 3. Does anyone run these and what are your impressions please? This is for a daily driver but I'm getting pretty serious about Club track days approx. 1 per month.

Thanks Karl. I'm suprised that no-one knows of these in the US they look very good. I've just signed up for the 968 forum.

I have the Variant 3 in my daily driver. It is the best suspension I have ever seen. Comparable with the M030 but much smoother at small bumps. It reacts very smooth on small movements and gets hard soon if it is stressed more. It is easily adjustable and in most cases it is easy to install.

I use the Competition 2 suspension in my race car. It is great on the racetrack but I would not recommend it for daily use. The V3 is the best compromise.

Well having spent quite a few $$$ getting my car up to Mo30/968cs spec's do you think there is enough difference to justify spending a bigger bundle on the Varient 3? I am still finding my current setup a bit soft for the track. Mostly pitch forwards under braking which of course gets the tail in the air and presto around she goes. Also I can't seem to apply power too early through some slower corners as I lose traction. The body roll is ok but maybe that's more up to the sway bars anyway which are 968cs. With your V3, do you think it would be better for the track and how easy is it to adjust for street driving? The more I look at these the better they seem but a bit expensive when I am getting another set of wheels and tyres at $5k soon!
Many thanks for your assistance.

You could probably recover some of the costs on the M030 by selling it on, there is fairly high demand for it,

That is the major difference to the new KW suspensions from my point of view. Both (V3 & C2) responde very smooth without beeing soft. The wheels do not loose contact to the ground and you get a better traction.

I guess this is based on a step forward in technology since the M030 is more than 20 years old now. The KW guys provide a very good basic setup for the package. And since they are in my direct neighbourhood I got a lot of help in adjusting my car perfectly.

For me the KW suspension is definitely better than the M030 - but it is a personal decision if it is worth the money. The M030 is not a bad setup at all.

The only problem is possibly transporting stuff (Mo30, Tial wg, Greddy ebc, even 951 stock stuff for a 944 etc...mostly 9.5/10 condition. Anyone interested?) from Australia to the rest of the world in terms of costs which you have to try and build or absorb in the sale price.
As for the KW's I'm in touch with the Australian distributor and the wheels are turning. In terms of fine tuning or adjustment how difficult is it? What are the guys doing at the factory that you can't do yourself in other words?

How much power are you running in your 'daily driver'?

My suspension is very similar to 333pg333's, but I would like a smoother, more 'composed' feel on the road, but I am wondering how the kw would respond to any future upgrades.

We did a lot of testing for the combination of the springs. The C2 is used in a S2 racecar (1080kg, 240hp). It makes it easier to test if you have all the different springs available.

The V3 is in a 90' 951 (1350kg, 320hp). Nothing changed on the KW setup.

The dampers can be adjusted externally without removing the units. That is not a big thing.

I went for a drive with the importer in his Golf R32 that had been turboed and had the Varient 3 pack. While it was not very conclusive, it did seem to soak up bumps very well. The KW's have adjustable compression settings as well as rebound while the Koni's only have rebound. They also have something known as a high speed bypass valve which offsets bigger bumps in the road/track. Also the rears are adjustable whereas the 968cs konis are not. So it would seem as if they are definately reflective of the 20 years difference in tech. just a matter of finding the almost $4k Aussie to buy them. Also check with guys on this site:

Well if anyone's interested I am now going for the race version of the KW's as I want a really good track car and am prepared to wear the extra harshness on the road over the short distances I drive on a daily basis. Can't wait to see how they go at the track off course!
