Default Tire Rubbing Q.

My front tires seem to rub under hard turning. One of my busings is completly shot on the front sway bar as well, would the struts cause the rubbing or ?? I plan on upragding to M030 Sways here shortly so i'm not worried about replacing that busing.

Any help?

Where's it rubbing? Fender lip, fender liner, inside/outside?

Jim,
Not really sure, i just hear it when I turn hard. For example, i was making a sharp right hand turn today going ~25mph and i could hear it rubbing, i wasn't at full lock, but pretty close.

Run your fingers under the fender lip, see if you can see/feel any rubber deposits. You also may be able to see signs of rubbing on the tire shoulder. I suppose a shot sway bar bushing could cause that corner to compress a bit more than normal during hard cornering causing the tire to rub on the fender lip.

Check to be sure the tire isn't rubbing something important, like the brake flex hose (although that would probably not be audible in the car.)

Look at the fender liner to see if there are any rub marks. My old struts were so shot that the tire actually rubbed on the top of the fender liner at times, however that was on the track and I doubt street driving would cause that much compression no matter how shot the struts or springs are.

What size wheels and tires are you using in front? If not stock, what are the offsets? Is this something that just started?

Turn the radio up, it'll go away.

Jim,
Lol.. I'll check. They're not stock Boxster S 17" Twists. (17x7F, 17x8.5R) Not sure what the offset is, but I did have to use a 5/16" wheel spacer in the front so the rim wouldn't hit the dust cap.

Na, didn't just start, it did it at the auto-x this past summer.

Wes, I'd bet that if you look in your tire well about 4-8 inches in front of the strut/brake lines you'll see rub marks on the inner fender well.

I believe I am running the same rims (205F and 255R tires), but I don't have any rubbing issues. Nor do I need spacers. My guess is old suspension causing the rubbing.

What size tire are you running? They may be too tall.
