How much does a 951 engine weigh?
Is a 3/4 ton stand and cherry picker enough?
|
definetly.
|
No idea where I got this from, and I could be WAAAAY off, but 374 lbs. is bouncing around in my skull. I'm sure someone will speak up with the correct weight.
|
That is pretty close, figure 450 to give yourself some breathing room, and you are still not even close to the capacity of a 3/4 stand and lift. Not much to the motors.
|
I think the 374 sounds right.
I dropped a complete turbo engine onto a creeper rated at 300lbs. Ive done this twice and use it to push the motor around on my garage floor. Hasnt broken yet. |
i heard approx 350 lbs but that was just the long block.
|
The 944 N/A without plumbing is exactly 362lbs dry. The figure of 383lbs for the 951 is what I weighed a dry salvage long block with only turbo/intercooler plumbing. Even the 120AMP distributor is 2lbs heavier. Still lightweight as far as alu engines go today. Who needs to rent a cherry picker when a High-School Powerlifter can do it for huge steak dinner?

I'd guess around 380lbs without accessories. Enough where two of us had to lift it and definitely felt like hell afterwords (took the chain off of it and it started to fall off the tire).

Hmm, on the same topic, what about an N/A engine. Almost complete. No air box, fuel rail, maybe 20lbs of stuff removed.
I have to move one out of the garage, and want to know what I am getting myself into... |
According to Porsche :
193 kg for the 951 engine with 250 bhp 188 kg for the 951 engine with 220 bhp 175 kg for the 944 S and 944 S2 engines I let you convert to pounds ;) |
175kg.... okay, so if I have the crossmember on add maybe 20kg for that. I think the steering rack is on as well, maybe another 10kg, and subtract what I've taken off, and we're around 200kg, or 440lbs... 3 guys to get this safely into the back of a truck. Got it :)
