Your best bet is finding an 87 with an lsd and upgrading the spindles and hubs. It will be cheaper and you can add what ever swaybars etc..
A stock 89 mo30 is great if you stay stock but if your plan is to upgrade then start with a less expensive model.
9fitty1 - is selling a nice car, pm him. I saw it in person and it looks good and has an lsd plus koni's and slotted brakes. Its more than half way there.

I would go for a '86, more common plus if you really want to to strip it down, less to worry about without ABS or airbags. I really hope you realize how much money this is going to cost overall plus the amount of work, time and money, you will put in, if done correctly that is. I have well north of $16,000 in my car which is an '86 Turbo with just bolt ons and I would even think of racing unless I got at least another $8,000 into it with safety, suspension and rebuilt engine! Get the car, do safety items and strip it down, brakes, suspension and tires then race this year. Next year worry about the power, I am not sure if you realize how much time it will take to get all the parts, find the right car and do all the work as well. Do you plan to do your own work or take it in?

combo, for things i cant do i have a porsche guy that builds boats for a living down about 30 mins from here. So that should come in handy. But yea i do know that its gonna take a lot of money and even more money when something breaks, but i'm gonna try and do it right the first time with out spending unnessary money and replacing things that are common to break before they do and really mess things up.
Also i'm working with a machine shop right now to replace the timing belt with a chain (blasphemy?) i'll let yall know how that goes

Edman - I would be very interested to know what your egt's are at 20 psi with the GURU setup!!
Right now i'm running a Vitesse AFM chp instead of the Guru one.
Since i needed bigger injectors.
John was king enough to sell me injectors and a chip so i could run the bigger injectors.

Have you thought about buying a race ready car ? You could buy this car or one like it way cheaper than you can build it.

LTReid,
From personal experience, I can tell you that you will have traction issues with just 300+rwhp on a 951 circuit car.
It seems you lack the understanding/appreciation of the complexity and the amount of works involve in getting 500rwhp. Just ask specialtool how many hours his car had been spent on the dyno

i see you didn't read all the posts, i said not to go over the 550 mark. But yea i have backed off that idea for now and i'm going for the gt4 class, so right now i'm looking at 350 to 400.
so i lack the understanding/appreciation, hmmmmmm have you consider that i might want to spend every free hour that i have tryin to get this car to where i want it? Have you considered the fact that i'm doing my homework night after night tryin to figure out how this can work? Yes I do know how many hours specialtool spent in just tuning his car, and am i will to go past that, yes. Thats called dedication my friend, and sometimes thats all you need (along with money)
Ye of little faith.

LtReid,
This place suffers a bit from a groupthink situation, each member of the group attempts to conform his or her opinions to what they believe to be the consensus of the group. Many do this without any real practical experience.
I drive a 350+WHP 944 turbo, and can tell you its not that hard to get safely. You simply need to do your research which you are doing now, and take as many sources of information as possible, including common sense (not so common these days). To get to 350WHP, you "only" need a bigger turbo (millions of choices to get you there), injectors, some kind of fuel / timing controller, some decent IC pipes, probably a 38mm Tial, some exhaust work (probably full 3"), a MAP or MAF kit (I prefer MAP)... Thats about it really.
