Wiring in a SMT6

Hey all,

Just curious what method everyone uses to wire in things (such as a SMT6) to their DME wiring. I know I've seen these "t" things, where you crush it down on the new wire, and then crush it down on the wire to be tapped, and doing so "bites" through the plastic covering, making a (seemingly) good, and clean connection...anyone know what i'm talkin about?

yeah, I know what your talking about. Now what you really should do is solder and heat shrink the connections.

Youre referring to "Vampire Taps". Avoid them. Ive delt with an engine harness on an MR2 Turbo that had those used on it. A lot of the wires needed cutting and resoldering just to fix them.

Like evil said, solder them. You can also avoid cutting the original wire, just carefully pull the sheeth back and solder right there, then cover with tape or similar.

Solder and heat shrink. I have used the vampire to test/install with but have always gone back and soldered the connections, and use heat shrink to cover them.
