no start problem
car will not start, tach is not moving so i figured reference sensors. however they pass the resistance test, could be plugs coming out of the wiring harness although they *look* good. TPS is supposedly new, but doesn't click like it should. wiring/plugs around the TPS/MAF are ratty and in really bad shape, but none of this should cause the tach to not move during cranking, right?

If the boost gauge in the tach normally works and is not reading 1 bar with the key on then the ECU is not getting any juice. I'd look at DME relay, if it is reading 1 bar then your problem lies elsewhere. That's where I always start.

ok i'm getting a slight bounce on the tach when cranking now, it's been so long since i diagnosed a problem like this i've forgotten how much it's supposed to bounce? swapped out the DME relay just in case, no luck. verified that there is spark with a tester light. i guess in the morning i can pull the fuel rail and see if it's got fuel. the only other thing i can think of is that the MAF is not getting a signal (harness is in really bad shape).

If your boost gauge is working then you can pretty much bypass all the checks for the DME and KLR. If your suspicion is the maf wiring, pull off the DME connection and measure between pins 5+ and 7-. It would be really handy if you had an old AFM plugged into the other side to test the wiring. Fully closed it should be around 250 mv full open 4.6v. I guess the maf with no air flowing through it should mimic the barn door style and be around 250 mv, but that's just a guess. Maybe you could blow some air through it with a hair dry to see if voltage increases on the DME connector end.
