Coil over install question
I haven't done an install, and will be soon. When building your coil overs, without helper springs, must the springs be compressed, or can they be installed without tension? I'm not using helpers, and I'm deleting t-bars, so what are the whatch out for this things that I need to know? Thank you. E

Correct, just turn the perch down so that there is no compression on the spring when installing it.
However, be careful w/ your factory struts. You may need a spring compressor if you can't get the tension off of them.

If you lowered the car would it create tension, thus stopping the noise? That's not necessarily practical or desired, but hypothetically would that solve the problem. I know they will "thunk" when taken off of jack stands, and reloaded, so I wonder about lowering. hmm.

I'll remove the entire assembly and replace with new. If I need to disassemble them, I'll take them to a shop and have the springs removed. They are non replaceable inserts. boge i think. The front left is bound up, so I'm used to a STIFF susension. lol

Have you read the tech article about this on Paragon's Tech Session site? Its very helpful with a ton of pictures.

If you are using the same strut housings, you will defenetley need to get / borrow spring compressors to get the old springs off. Are you using adjustable ride height spring perches? A trick that i learned from reading the archives is to wrap zip ties along the top of the spring and perch. This makes sure the spring 'seats' correctly on the lower perch when you jack the car up.

Thanks for the link. i won't be using Koni's nor doing the conversion. The entire assembly is coming off, so removing the stock springs will be an after thought. That tip about zip ties seems pretty good. Thanks.

No theoretically there shouldnt be any noises once lowered, and there probably isnt any on mine coming from that, right now my tie rod ends are making noises. Really the helpers are not needed I just want to make the setup as clean as possible.

you going to use a Koklen rear end or similar to replace the t-bars ?
if so beware. Mine needed a lot of tweaking before fitting - still not sorted yet

no. Hell no. Unless I win the lottery.
I'm staying stock sans t-bars. I'll use Racer's Edge lower mounts, and I'm going to try to talk John Hejny into developing away to reinforce the upper rear mounts. That's actually (from my research) the weak spot in the system. BTW, he told me that was the only failure he had seen.
