Default Temp Gauge & Boost Gauge

Hi All,

My temp gauge starts off reading fine and moves up about 40% of the way. Suddenly it stands to full attention (i.e. rises to the top of it's deflection). It then remains there (happens after about 10 mins) until switch off.

Engine temps are fine - just the gauge itself. Has done this for at least 4 years according to car's history (it's a 1991 Turbo - UK).

Also, boost gauge under reads by .6 bar (also shows -.6 when engine off and ignition on. It should show 1.0) Boost pressure is correct though. Any ideas on either of these?

All other gauges are fine.

Regards,
Andrew

You could address the engine grounds, a local 944 owner here had the same issues with the tempreature gauge.

Disconnecting the grounds (both battery negative ends, bell housing, driver's side dahsboard, rear boot ground and both headlight grounds) cleared his worries of the tempreature gauge.

hi andrew.....good to see you on the rennlist forum!

sorry i'm not able to offer any solutions to your gauge probs but maybe you can with mine????

as you know in my car i have the spa design boost/temp gauge......well, it's working perfect on the boost gauge section but the temp section has stopped reading correctly...ie...it just wanders the entire temp range as if its trying to lock on to the correct temp.....do you think its the gauge at fault or the sensor at the sump????? any thoughts on this would be appreciated......cheers!

Default Oil Temp Gauge

Hi John,

I'm a newbie here having stuck with the e-mail list for about 7 years. A lot more activity on the forums now.

Anyway, the gauge is almost certainly fine. It's much more likely to be the sender. You should be able to get them direct from SPA Deisgn for very little ££. I had the sensor stop working once and got a replacement in 2002.

Before replacing sender (in the sump plug) - check the wiring and heat wrap around it as it suffers from the heat of the exhaust downpipe.

I'm in Florida in November (21 - 24), are you around then? All the best.

Regards,
Andrew
