'86 951 suspension upgrade help
Have an opportunity to buy a set of 951S M030 swaybars with bushings and "all mounting hardware" for my '86 951. Have a couple of questions about making this jump.
1) Without having the M030 springs/shocks, will adding the M030 swaybars do more harm than good or is this a viable incremental upgrade?
2) How much of a "bolt-on" is this for an '86 951? I know that the '86 951 didn't offer an M030 option but I'm assuming that the hardpoints to mount all the mounting hardware will be there, right?
Thanks all!

Your car should have either a 22.5 mm solid or a 24 mm hollow front sway bar with an 18 mm solid rear sway bar. The 951S M030 sway bar set-up is a 26.8 mm hollow front bar with either an 18 mm rear bar (1988/early 1989) or 16 mm rear bar (late 1989-1991.) The rear bar will either be the same as yours or SMALLER, while the front bar will be significantly larger. This will increase your understeer. You would be better off to keep your stock bars, or go to either a set of 968 M030 bars (30 mm hollow front/19 mm adjustable solid rear) or a set of aftermarket matched bars.

Any recommendations on a decent setup for largely street use (not a daily driver but close to it in summer) but better for autocross and DEs?

The 968 M030 bars that Waterguy refered to are going to be your best bacg for the buck setup. Sunset Porsche and Paragon typically have the best deals on them. I paid a bit over $400 for Sunset including all new bushings.
Also if you don't already have them get some Koni Yellows - Paragon, and get by the used Ground Control coilover conversion that mroberts is selling - great bang for the buck upgrade.
