Basically here are the cheapest prices I have found:
Apexi AVC-R - $399
BLITZ SBC ID3 - $499
HKS EVC 5 - $499
Out of these, the Apexi has the most features, and is obviously the cheapest one of the three. These prices include shipping costs as well.
How much of a difference does gear based boost control make? For those of you that use the Apexi, do you use this feature of the boost controller? For those of you who have the Blitz, do you plan on buying the extra $250 meter in order to do the gear based boost control?
Finally, for those that run the GReddy Profec controllers, are you happy without the gear based boost control, and the peak hold and all the other "bells and wistles" of the above controllers?
From what I have found, all the GReddy Profec's are basically the same price, they are all right about $300 shipped. No one has used the Greddy Profec Type-S on here?
Thanks for all the input so far!
Matt

Im happy with my Profec A's performance. I get full boost, faster spool than with the LBE I had. The fuzzy logic learning is a pain, makes it more annoying to change boost when I want to, but so far no issues with that.

Personally, I don't see where gear based boost control in nescessarry anywhere close to stock. Having owned several big V8s with 300+ lb-ft of torque at idle, I find driving a 951 even with 302lb-ft of torque to not be an issue. Now if you have a 951 with 400+ wheel HP (and the torque to go with it), then you might need gear based boost control.
Anyway, I've read good things about the Apexi too, and it was the other unit I was thinking about. I don't remember for sure, but does the Apexi have a dual port wastegate mode? That was the biggest thing that pushed me to the SBC was that it definitely did and had good reviews working in DP mode.
