Plug up stock oil cooler coolant holes?
I'll have the manifolds off and was going to change the seals in the stock oil cooler. This is the internal one under the oil filter. I have never opened it up and don't know how it works yet but have read a lot about coolant mixing with the oil if the seals go bad. Since I'm looking to add an additional external oil cooler, can the stock internal one be plugged off inside where the coolant enters so I never have to worry about the "milkshake"? Thanks.

See info here. http://members.rennlist.com/tom86951/ under oil seal replacement. Blocking off the cooler lines would not help with the mixing problem.

Thanks for the great write-up. I've also considered running a remote oil filter from summit racing to the front of the car with dual oil filters and clamp-on fins that make the filters work as oil coolers, too. How can the stock oil cooler be blocked off so there can be no possibility of coolant mixing? I'm afraid I wouldn't discover the coolant in the oil until it was too late for the bearings. Luckily my cooler isn't leaking yet but I don't trust it.
