Default How long should OEM brake pads last?

How many miles should a set of front OEM pads last? My warning light came on the other day, but the pads were replaced about 16k miles ago. No DEs or Auto-Xs. Seems a bit early to me, am I wrong? Is it possible that the sensor shorted out by itself?

The sensor could have moved and worn prematurely (if I'm picturing it right), or one of the plug-in connections could have come loose. You should be able to see the outer pad thickness throught the wheel, but you should probably jack it up and remove each wheel and inspect the pads. 16k sounds a bit low to me too.

Yeah, I think it's the sensor too. I had the weels off maybe two weeks ago and took a peek. I didn't look too closely, because I thought I had plenty of milage left. When I looked I had plenty of pad left, but I only glanced at one front wheel and one rear wheel. I'll take them off and have a closer look in the next few days, thanks.
