Problem under WOT

When I accelerate hard, its as though my car is trying to accelerate, but doesn't. It almost feels as though something is 'clogging' it because sometimes a little spurt of power will get through, and then nothing again. It will also backfire while this is happening. Sometimes it is fine under heavy acceleration, other times this happens and I back off the throttle straight away.
Car is a stock 86 turbo.

If anyone knows what is causing this then that would be a great help. Oh and please be specific/detailed because otherwise I probably wont have a clue what you are on about :P

Thanks

Start by checking for leaks on the intake system.
Sounds like theres a leaning out of the AFR.

TPS

Throttle position sensor. I would almost bet a vegemite sandwich on it. ;)

CV boost cutting or retarding timing becuase of detonation?

Def check for leaks and the TPS...

Also check the ignition -- cap, rotor, plugs AND wires.

Do you guys get Vegemite over there? and Marmite?

Mike951 04-02-2005 05:51 PM

I second ignition, had a very similar problem, turned out to be crappy wires arcing all over the place.

If the above doesn't work check the fuel filter, fpr and pump.

It's available but no one buys it except for transplanted Brits and Aussies and axe murderers.
