Looks like we have 16 people does that count as even more of a discount?
16....so far! Friday 3/18 is my cut-off. On Friday I will negotiate the final price, with the final count. I will get the best deal I can at that time.

One vote so far for me to QC a prototype.

Bill-

I just wanted to confirm that I am still in since I had not replied again.

Thanks for doing all of this legwork. It is a great service to the community. Make sure Griffin keeps this template so that someone like Paragon can continue to sell these to people who may miss this opportunity. You might want to contact Paragon about fitment as they probably sell alot of factory replacements. You could mention the possibility of them becoming a reseller.

I also suggest having Griffin handle payment and shipping individually if you can. There is no need for you to manage that burden and Griffin should be set up for it. I would rather pay an extra $15 shipping to keep the hassle of your plate.

Concerning the prototype, I would imagine most on here are not in an extremely urgent situation and would prefer fitment quality over speed. Griffin does this stuff all the time so they will probably know how to handle it.

Max,

You are welcome.

Your line of thought is right in line with mine. I felt that once Griffin made one radiator for our car, it would benefit all other 944 owners later. If Paragon would like to become a reseller, I have no problems with that. My goal originally was to get the best part for my car. Now it has expanded a little.

I could not agree more with payment. I want to set up a paypal, so everyone can deal direct with Griffin. I do not want to be a middle man. I do not want anyone elses money. I will try to negotiate to have the cost of taxes and shipping (continental US) included in one price. Yes this will bennefit the farthest state from Griffin the most, but it will keep the buy very simple. I paid $16 dollars (included boxing) to ship my radiator from California to Piedmont, South Carolina, UPS. It took one week.

Just spoke to Griffin. They are looking forward to working with us. He liked the prototype/QC idea. Threw out the idea of one price including shipping and taxes. Griffin has done group buys, but they have not done paypal. He will look into it, but if paypal adds cost, he will look into Griffins way that will not add cost. I told him I would contact Griffin on Friday for final details and count.

Any thought on making a larger radiator?
Yes, I did consider this.

In my initial conversation with the Griffin engineer his first question was, how much extra room do you have? Well, we all know how tight the engine compartment is on our cars. But my approach is from a modded street car, not a race car. I wanted to get the best cooling, have a direct bolt-in, and get a product that would last longer than the stock unit. Griffin engineers looked at my stock radiator and determined that their all aluminum, direct replacement radiator should provide an additional 15 -20% of cooling capacity. Given this and the fact that I can keep my sawsall in its box, it was a no brainer.

Griffin can make as large a radiator as you would like. For a race car, all you would have to do is give Griffin your dimensions and requirements and they will engineer you a custom radiator.

I know my friend made his radiator alittle thicker and I think alittle lower. I don't think he cut anything either. Can anyone check dimensions? ( I don't have my car handy).

I'm in absolutely NO RUSH for mine either. I'm doing this as a CYA, since my car has approx. 105K miles and I've not touched the radiator, yet.

Question: Is there some way we can put an '87+ radiator next to the prototype you receive to be sure years later than '86 would be good as well? Just a thought...

Thanks for all you're doing to help us out. It's much appreciated!

evil944t

In order to get the price break, we need to keep all the radiators the same.

I for one do not want to give up ease of installation, just for the chance to get a couple extra percent cooling. I do not have the time to R&D a shoehorn radiator.

simmomi,

As I said before, two Porsche sources have confirmed that all turbo radiators come from the same mold. However, Cas951 lives near me and has an 88 turbo S, if he is willing I would gladly do a test install in his car as well as my 86.

Bill,

I understand, no need to re invent the wheel. Just asking. Thanks for doing all the work.

Bill,
I'm in for a vote on quality control. If need be, I think I can scrounge a late radiator for Griffin. Let me know if you need it.

Thanks for organizing it. I know it can be a lot of work.

The Griffin rep thought that paypal did add cost, that is why he is looking into paypal. Griffin's way, which he has not yet told me the method, should not add cost. We will see.
