Hot air... how to stop?
 

For quite some time my aircon has not been working, but in addition to that I can not turn off the fan/air blower. Which seems to blow really hot air, all the time, and even with the vents directed away and at the windscreen lots of hot air still comes straight at me.

Is there a way of stopping this? a fuse i can remove (i tried a couple but it didn't seem to work)? anything??
(i'm pretty sure i'll be taking the aircon out soon, otherwise i'd just get it fixed)

My car being right hand drive it seems somewhat harder to get to. I *think* i can see the end of it, but there are a fair few things in the way, and the glovebox being on that side doesn't make it much easier - i even called the dealership to confirm its location, but they knew nothing about that part, grrr. Said it might be some hose disconected behind the cylinder head?
I'll try and take a better look later.

On the bright side I fixed my driver side window, so at least now i can put both windows down again.

it appears i don't have any of that little assembly at all.

Take the glovebox liner out (easy but mind you dont short the connections on the light against the chassis) on RHD cars for access,

SD951: That assembly is hidden behine a plastic cover, remove the cover to access them.

check the vacuum supply to the system too. Check that the vac. reservoir near the battery is connected to a hose, see if the heater control valve is working, the valve is visible behind the cyl. head, it is black and white, has a vac. hose connected to it and an inch dia, approx., colant hose going to and coming from it. There is a small white lever on the valve, it should extend when the heat is on and retract when you shut the heat off. The vac supply for the heater system is a blue vac hose that goes into the firewall under the main wiring bundle behind the cyl head, check and see if it's connected at both ends. Even if the heater linkage clip is broken you should be able to turn the heat off if the vac system is working correctly.

Got Heat? Hot air blowing out the vents no matter what you do even with the AC on full blast? This could be the infamous "heater clip failure". The good news: it's real cheap and easy to fix!
A threaded rod that controls the heater door is attached via a very small and brittle plastic support and metal clip. The support ages and eventually cracks, throwing the clip to the floor and releasing the heat to the cabin. This assembly is located just above the driver's right knee (LHD models). The pictures really tell the story:



Note: In late model cars, there is a plastic cover concealing this area. Remove the three screws holding it on to remove.
