Oil Dipstick
Ok I have a pretty easy question. My oil dipstick tip is brokent and I tried ordering a replacement but I was sent a differnent type of dipstick. The one in my car now is the one with the yellow top that says oil on and the metal part is flat and has a twist at the bottom. The one was sent also has the yellow top but has a rounded stick so I tried installling it but it seems that it wont fit since theres a bend in the dip stick tube. So my question is, is there something wrong with my car or did they just sent me the wrong dipstick? What style dipsticks come on the stock 87 951?

My dipstick is the flat flexible one and has a pice broken off at the end that measures the oil level, right after the twist. But the new one I got is more like a rod and has some spherical thing on the end that goes into the tube, but I cant seem to make it fit. Thats where Im a little confused at which one is the stock dipstick? If you say its the one with the shperical thing on the stick, then is there a reason as why it wont fit in my car? When I try to put it in it gets stuck because it seems like theres a bend in the tube.

Mine takes a little wiggling to get it in quite right, but it goes in almost all the way. Is it getting stuck with more than an inch or so left out?

The 944 Turbos have a different oil dipstick than the NA cars:
944 Turbo Oil Dipstick Number: 951 107 021 01
944 NA Oil Dipstick Number: 944 107 xxx xx
Check that you ordered/they sent you the correct one.

I hope you know where that dip stick tip went. I have heard of guys dropping nuts down the filler tube and they were heavy enough to stay at the bottom of the pan and cause no problem. Still ......

My 1987 951 had (it died) a flat dipstick and my 1988 951 has (very much alive) a round dipstick with broken top. I have no idea if they are both original, but they are equally difficult to insert.

my turbo now has a flat dipstick with a twist at the end like you talk about how your original one was, but my n/a has a dipstick similar to the one that they sent you almost like a rod with a flat side at the bottom?
