! light problem

Well I havent driven my car for a couple days and today I noticed that the ! light would turn on and off while Im driving. It usually does it in 1-3 gear while Im slightly accelerating. Its not constant though, it will do it most of the time but not always. Does any know what might be causing this. Other than the hand brake what else does the ! light mean?

Could it be the alternator? Or grounds?

Check to see which of the warning lamps have had the bulbs removed. It should be calling your attention to another warning.

how about checking your brake fluid level as well

Sami951 06-21-2004 07:32 PM

My guess is you're running low on brake fluid. Like Joel said, there should be some other warning light going on at the same time...

Oh I thought your headlights were flashing on and off. sorry.

If it happens on acceleration, it is almost certainly a low fluid level. On an 87, I believe this could still be low OIL level iirc (or brake fluid).

Does that warning light come one once you start the car with the handbrake off? if yes, then you could be having low oil, and the rear bulb is not connected. If the light doesn't come on when you start the car, then yes, check your brake fluid level.

it might be the........handbrake. Check the microswitch and bracket for it below the handbrake. One of my cars does exactly that when accelerating, just reach down and flick the bracket up, stays ok for about two - three months. one day i will loctite it.

Thanks guys it was the brake fluid. Its my clutch slave cylinder, its leaking all over the place. Well looks like I got something to do this weekend.
