Question Steering Wheel Install Question

I am installing a MOMO Competition steering wheel on a 1988 944 Turbo S and the HUB adapter they sell for it does not work due to the 88' 944 TurboS having had an airbag. I am told that this is the only HUB adapter sold for the 86' to 89' 944 Turbo and that it has to be modified to work on cars that had airbags. Is anyone familiar with this hub adapter modification and how it is done? I have ground off the tab on the hub adapter which deactivates the turn signals because there is no slot for it to go into, however the splined shaft seems to be too short.?? Thanks!

We put a Momo wheel on Jon Moeller's '88 airbag car, and there weren't any of your reported issues - we still kept turn signal canceling, just had to install a horn contact ring and trim the little black bezel to clear the adaptor. Look in Ski's "Track Car Pics" thread, he did the same thing, new Momo into an airbag car, and he posted some directions.

Geoff,
You need to pull the airbag controller off the column assembly, too. This is the clear assembly with the brass contact plate with the coiled metal inside.

If you still have issues after this, please let us know. I have some pretty good pictures of the install.

cleanest way is with a controller?/hub assembly for a non airbag car. when my wrench did it he sourced a used one in good condition. cost me around $100. This way I kept my entire airbag set up for later use/ resale.

I have notepad file with the directions if you want it I can email to you.

Address?

Jay K,

If not to inconvenient could you please email those instructions to me also. That sounds like the best solution I have heard yet.

Thanks in advance,

Blaster,

Where did you get those instrument trim rings? I have been thinking about a set to dress up my dash... Hard to install?

i had the mulitswitch assemblyu changed out to non-airbag, it was cheap, like $20 on ebay, $140 i think at dealer.

i took out my airbag dash and totally ignored the 944 airbag removal instructions of cutting wires and this and that. i simply put in the resistor that tells the computer the airbag is still there. those were like $40 for the pair. you can reinstall airbag if you want, your computer will still shut off the engine in an "airbag deploying" crash, etc. why cut up your wires or mess with your car for an easy install of two $20 resistors?

Look at it from the other side - why pay $40 when you can just cut 2 easily-accessible wires? If you ever go back a solder/heatshrink is under 5 min, which you do anyway to install the resistors.
