Turbo S Forged Wheels and S2 Wheels Are They Different?
Are these two wheels the same or different? If different, how can i tell by looking at them? Was thinking about getting some for my 87, but not sure what's up. Thanks.

It's easy to see the difference once you get a closer look:

The Turbo S Clubsport wheel is forged and has some decorative machining around the ends of the spokes. The pokes also flow into the wheel smoothly.
The Design 90's have spokes that look kinda like they are welded to the rim.
Clubsports are also commonly found in 7" and 9" widths, D90's are available in 9" but quite rare. They are more commonly found in 6" and 8" (911) or 7" and 8" (944.)

Oh
One other thing you may want to know ..
That Turbo S wheel is the biggest PITA to keep clean
The pressure cast wheels are painted and are very easy to maintain
The forged alloy wheels are much stronger as well.
I have 2 set of the forged wheels. Both had to be refinished
They are very nice but a chore to keep clean. The anodized wheel
is really a thing of the past and for a good reason ...

I have D90s on mine 7.5" front 9" rear.
I think they are stronger than the forged ones, albe it heavier.
There is a guy over here who had one of the spokes snap on a track day with the forged wheels!!!

Forged wheels don't snap or crack unless they had a manufacturing defect or were repaired by someone...the forged wheels are both lighter and stronger than the D90s.

Have there been any tests carried out on the wheel strength?
I know they were lighter not sure they are any stronger...

As long as we're talking about the 944 Turbo Club Sport wheels...
What has anyone here used to thoroughly strip and clean these wheels ? I want to bring them back to a stock original finish if possible.
It appears as though the PO painted one of four with a silver finish The other 3 wheels are still slightly polished or maybe I am seeing the original adonized finish....
In any event - If anyone has done this before please let me know what works. Thanks.

I had them prof refinished it costs about 650 for all four
They have to be re-anodized . I don't believe that is a DIY type of job
They as I said earlier, "a PITA to maintain" ... If I were to do it all over again
I would have painted one set and left one set orig. Almost all factory wheels are painted today ....
The Guy here in CA is Harvey Weidman Wheels. Nice, fair and honest guy and does great work.
Get'em painted and save your self the headache.

Anyway you have taken this whole thread way off point...I think he just wants to know how to tell the difference between the two types. And his question has pretty much been answered...If you are confused about wheels you should start your own thread. But your boring me so till then...later

I am by no means an authority on wheels but I have always understood that a forged material is much stronger that a cast material of the same type. That was back in my high school days of metallurgy...
It actually changes the grain structure of the metal making it stronger
see below
" The advantage of forging is that it improves the strength of the metal by aligning and stretching the grain structure. A forged part will normally be stronger than a casting or a machined piece. "
WTFKs
These wheels were very highly praised when they first came out ...
