SOS Low Oil light and Main Red Light Still on

I replaced my low oil sending unit today and I still have the low oil light and the main red light that comes on when something is wrong. I talked with the Tech guy's at Pelican after I changed the sending unit. They suggested I take it to the Dealer to have them run the codes to see what it is. Any idea's? I am thinking the low oil sender is right that the oil is not getting back down to the pan if so what could be causeing this?

Huh? Sorry but there are no codes for the oil level waring light. Unplug it and ground the connection in the plug, start the engine and see if the light goes out. If not it's a wiring issue. It's a very simple system that can be a pain in the ass..........

See that you got the terminals own the unite right, you may have installed them the wrong way.

After I had changed the sending unit and started the car the light stayed off for a few minutes the poped on. I am concerened since both light's are on or is the main red light on because the oil light is on? Pressure is normal, I will do the ground system check in the morning.

Ther is only one wire on the sending unit.

I just had the same problem. It was due to the wire from the sending unit disintegrating from "age". My mechanic soldered the broken ends together and viola, problem fixed!

Yes you should check the two wires on the unit for corrosion and condition from tip to end.

There is some confusion here as to what Cliff is referring to.

The issue you have is with the oil level sender in the oil pan correct?

Cliff Ruckstuhl 05-18-2004 04:41 PM

Yes it is the Oil Level sending unit in the the oil pan. Has one wire attached to it Yellow I think. I am taking the car to a dealer on Thursday to get it fixed. Has to be a wire connection some where. I talked to the Techs at Parragon and told them I had both lights the oil light and the main red light on and they both come on at the same time. They suggested I take it to the dealer just to be safe. Heading to the Toledo Dealer on Thursday.

You never said weather the oil level on the stick was to the full mark. The level sensor will turn the light on (and Central warning (!)) if the level in a quart low or halfway between the bottom and top marks.

So is it full?

Cliff Ruckstuhl 05-18-2004 04:51 PM

Yes oil is full and I did an oil change and still have the problem.
