Lindsey Spec 2 Clutch advise for 3 liter turbo

Hi.

I need a new clutch for my 968 Turbo S replica with a 3 liter turbo engine 400hp and 570nm. A friend has a new Lindsey Racing Spec 2 pull type clutch for sale. Any of you have experience with it? Good, bad?

I use my car on the road and track aswell as autocross.

Advise please.

Kind regards
Peder

I Installed a spec stage 3 in my 89Turbo-s Streetcar.. HATED IT Chattered SO BAD I downshifted one time on an off ramp and the rearview mirror fell off it shook so hard..

I then Purchased a STAGE 2 for my 86 Turbo.. (300 hp) Love it... You have to get used to it because with the aluminum Flywheel and Pressure plate you can Stall it EZ on the street becasue there is no Inertia..

When I Built the Racecar and it had a standalone in it with a Dual port I purchased a Stage 2 Disk at a swap meet and took the stage 3 out of my other Turbo-s.. I accendetally one time gave it FULL boost... (Remember this is a used Disk), and I INSTANTLY smoked it... it was the night before a DE and My Friend came over and we changed the clutch in 2 hours! Put the Stage three in (all I had) and Ran it..

The disk that i took out was kevlar, and it had a shine to it.. wich gave it No Gripping force.. 400HP at the wheels? I would be hesitant with a stage 2..

Im not a fan of the Specs, nearly every one we have installed had application issues, they are ok on a race car where its not driven on the street but they nearly all shuttered to varying degrees, some really bad. We went away from them quite some years ago and just install KEP pressure plates with one of the organic discs like the CUP disc. They work just like the stock setup although with a slightly heavier pedal, even great on our 3.0ltr track cars .
Maybe the specs are better these days but considering the time it takes to change them out i don't see it worth trying them again

Thank you guys, good info!
I will not go ahead with the Spec then but look into KEP.

Sean do you use stock 951 starter ring and throwout bearing?

SM, 2 hour clutch change is respekt!

I like the Kep better than the Spec as well. Had Stage 1 spec and got more chatter than I wanted. The spec also caused an annoying decel gear rattle. Kep is buttery smooth and quiet as stock.

Sounds great! In contact with KEP now👍

Yes stock ring gear and throwout bearing. The throwout bearings are a little more difficult to fit. Unlike the stock pressure plates where you can install the retainer by hand you will need a press to bring the pressure plate fingers back a little

I cannot comment on the SPEC parts, but I have been using a KEP Stage 2 with a 930 disc for 11 years and it has been working without issues. The pedal is stiffer than stock but that's what it takes to have proper clamping force IMO.

Thanks Sean, good info there👍

Thom thats a great record for reliability, yes a bit stiffer is ok with me.

What flywheel are you using 968 or 951? Sorry if I missed that.

I'm using the 951 flywheel on my 3.0L with a California Clutch 6-puck and a Blaszak pressure plate bolted to a fidanza light weight flywheel. I'm making similar power to you I think. The light weight makes it tricky in stop and go traffic, but it does grip pretty well.

Both my engine and clutch was a spare to one of the factory Turbo S cars that was turned into RS spec from new by Weinmann racing and raced in Germany and later by others in the US. The clutch is a weird race mish mash. Flywheel is a very light 951 style flywheel. Probably a motorsport unit.

+1 on running the KEP w/930 disk for years and very happy with it but I'm down ~300hp/tq. I also went with a lightened stock flywheel.

KEP Stage 2, 6 puck sprung clutch, and a Fidanza fly wheel. 500 hp/450 ft-lbs torque at the fly wheel. Been in the car for over 6 years.

My oem 968 master + Rock Auto C5 slave cylinder aren't producing sufficient hydraulic
force to run the Spec Stage II clutch. Shifting requires the full application of the pedal
and it's best to wait for the engine to spool down.
Release is way too abrupt.
Reverse shifter--clutch release is even worse w/ slipping.

How the fucck can i resolve this issue?

additional: i'm running a Fidanza LS1 Flywheel.
