That's right... concentrate on posting (and working on) your own car....

Cylinders (what we can see of them) look as good as the head and front seals look ugly! Nice move on the new LR head.

Thanks Don. You wouldn't have a copy of the updated vacuum drawing anywhere would you? Did you delete the IAS too? If you do could you email it to me at blpski@yahoo.com ...or anyone who has it in jpeg form TIA!

We hope to have it fired up Monday, June 7th for the first test drive; we'll see. Jim is going to try to have the crossover pipe off and the old turbo out by the time I get there so that should speed things up on that weekend of the 4,5, and 6th.

You just use a heat gun to get all the gook off then spray paint it?
I used the heat gun method, followed with LOTS of rubbing with 3M adhesive remover.

This isn't the best pic I have, but it's the best I could find quickly.

Oh my...

I have no idea. It took quite a while. Using the heat gun left lots of thick adhesive residue. I wouldn't think 30-40 hours would be out of the question. But, I'm pretty particular about that. I went back more than once to an area I already declared to be done to get it a little better. The problem is, once you paint it, going back and getting the gunk off is pretty much out of the question.

Here's a photo of what I started with:

Obviously the spot on the left floor is post cleaning.

Tom, cool pix!

As long as we're sharing, here are some pix of my cage. I have now installed the dash bar (which will run through the dash itself) and the passenger door X. I just have to have a few welds completed (I only tack - I weld like a monkey with one hand and three tails), add a few misc brackets, and finished the mounting plates.

If I were to do it over, I might consider moving bar that is the upper front part of the X lower and tying from it where it attached to the front down tube to the firewall and gussett between it and about 6" above the down tube bend. But, my dash bar ties in right where the top of the X is, so it's pretty solid.

I like that lower bar setup. I'd like to have one a bit lower myself. However, where will the shoulder harnesses mount to?

It looks like most of these cages are not going too far back in the car. Here's mine showing the rear most bars going way back to the side pockets:

Also, our door bars look very similar, but yours are so much closer to the chassis! Nice detail! Here's mine before painting:

I think if I build another one, I'd go for the full door intrusion NASCAR bar setup to give myself some more crush zone and make entry/exit easier. The diagonal door bar is almost too close to my elbow when driving... it's "acceptable".

Great looking projects in here!

What we've done is tied the cage to the suspension mounting points. On ours we have the main hoop braces tied to the rear shock towers.
