Default Finally some nice Tires for the old 16in crowd

Yokohama has got the ADVAN A052 tire out in the correct sizes. I haven't personally tested them but I was just checking on TireRack and BOOM there they were.

Thanks

Mike G.

I was going to try the Yoko A052s on my 951 as I have heard good things about them, but they were on backorder at the time, so I went with another set of 245/45-16 Pirelli Trofeo Rs, which are a good all-around street/track tire (though they are now pricey because they are N-rated by Porsche).

I currently have RE71 on the car and really like them but 225-245 size which is what I want.

Thanks

I have that stagger on now with the RE-11's happy with those, but the 11's are discontinued... I had the 71r's on the BMW for HPDE.

I got a set of the RE-71Rs for my 951 when they first came out (I run 16x8s all the way around, so I got 225s). That is a "cheater" tire if you ask me, nearly R-comp levels of grip and great feel. They do get horrendously noisy on the street after a track day, however. This is one area where the Trofeo Rs excel----they don't get noisy after track use. Now, my 951 has all spherical bushings and stiff springs and coilovers, so I;m not overly concerned with refinement, but the RE71Rs and numerous sets of Dunlop Direzza Star Specs before that sounded like I had 4 bad wheel bearings!

Thanks

A little off topic... why can’t you run the Hoosier DOT tires on the street? Water obviously. But say they only ran in the dry. Is it cold grip levels or heat cycles? Not that they would get very warm running on the street.

Are they treaded? If not they are illegal in California. Actually the RA1 tires are also illegal as they have more the 75% tread to groove ratio. That's what tire rack told me.

Thanks

Legal or not, that wouldn't be smart because even DOT-legal Hoosiers don't have much grip unless they are hot. And the only way they get hot is by hard cornering and braking, as in too fast for most roads.

I run the Pirelli Trofeo Rs on the street, which are a half-notch below the Hoosiers in terms of grip, but still have some semblance of grip on a cool morning. Even still, they also require some heat, as I was reminded during a moment on a freeway onramp last year that I'd like to forget . . . .

I'm sure the cold grip levels aren't that bad but then again I live in SoCal so cold is a relative term. 60F is pretty cold hehe

Thanks

I'm checking to see if they have the 245/45r16. It is not listed on their web site.
