who is actually running without balance shafts?

what displacement motor?

how many miles?

street or race only use?

observations?

putting a motor together for a DE car and have a delete kit sitting in front of me...

im not especially interested in spending more quality time with my TiG fixing cracks...

real world experience would be appreciated.

there has to be someone....

any scott gomes disciples out here?

NZ951 02-10-2004 07:12 PM

Lots of guys dont use them... TongG I think does not. I looked at this a while back. They are a Mitsubishi design, dont dont make too much vibration difference if I remember correctly from people comments.

mumzer 02-10-2004 07:23 PM

definitely a mistu design...the whole motor looks like they cribbed it from mitsu...

i appreciate the post...i know the diamond star guys get rid of em, but they are running smaller displacement shorter stroke stuff than we are.

still hoping for other voices.

thanks

No balance shafts here

2.8 ltr, 106mm bore with lightend and balanced crank, flywheel smooth as stock. 10k miles

NZ951 02-10-2004 07:31 PM

What is involved in removing them? Engine rev quicker? What are the gains?

NZ951 02-10-2004 07:32 PM

How much do they weigh?

SeaCay 02-10-2004 07:32 PM

Can't give you the answer you need, but I do have a Gomes delete kit in front of me too. Nice kit! I'll be putting it in a race motor, who cares how loud and obnxious those things are?

NZ951 02-10-2004 07:35 PM

What does the delete kit give you? Who supplies them? Cost?

TonyG 02-10-2004 07:35 PM

No balance shafts here..

Definitely not as smooth as stock here. 2.5L, Carillo Rods, lightened crank, aluminum flywheel.

Be prepared to locktight/locknut/lockwasher everything bolted to the side of the engine including the bellhousing.

5lbs each is my guess. I pulled them off the block, but I didn't actually weigh them.

NZ951 02-10-2004 07:40 PM

Thats heaps! Whats the deal with the delete kit? Smooth ride Tony? Benefits? Other than removing just another thing that can go wrong... Down side?

TonyG 02-10-2004 07:43 PM

Don't do it unless you have lightened your reciprocating mass. It won't help, ie aluminum flywheel knife edged lightened crank, etc...

So how do you get smooth as stock and certainly not in another? What are the differences between that would influence it?

Good question.
