Bumpy ride, but I'm here!
Hi all,
I'm new to Porsche ownership, having grown up with most of my family owning them (everything from 356s to a 912 to 911s spanning the early 70s-997) but never having had one of my own. I had the pleasure to meet Dale Smith at a Porsche meet a few months ago, who immediately tossed me the keys to his 944 Turbo and told me to take it for a spin. I had been casually car shopping already and hadn't ever considered any Porsche but a 911 (I had been thinking of buying my uncle's 997), but that thing put a huge grin on my face that I wasn't able to shake. A couple more test drives and a trip to the bank later, and I was the proud new owner of a gorgeous 951 that was even featured in Excellence magazine.
For many people, that would end their introduction. Well, my car decided it was going to get all of its bad karma out of the way up front, and ended up on three separate flatbeds in the first two weeks (not including another time I managed to limp it home). Dale was unbelievably awesome and not only ordered all kinds of parts even after I had bought it, but even had it brought back to his place to fix things for me after I exhausted my mechanic abilities/tool supplies. It's running beautifully now, though, and I look forward to bonding with my wonderful quirky car. Now to think of a name...
Picking up the car last month
First flatbed ride the next day (sure looks pretty up there though, doesn't it?)

Welcome. Really nice to hear the PO is a stand up guy, that's are rare thing. These cars are very reliable once they're sorted out. Mine has only left me stranded once in 14 years and that was my fault. Hooked up the alternator wiring wrong and killed the battery.

Welcome and congratulations on your new ride.
If you don't turn your own wrenches, start asking for recommendations on a new mechanic in your area. Dale won't help you forever, and if your mechanic couldn't solve these issues, it's time to look for one with 951 expertise and tools.

I actually do look forward to modifying the car instead of just doing repair work, and very much enjoy getting my hands dirty. So far all I've gotten to do is:
Replace a bunch of fuses (it kept blowing them out when the O2 sensor kept shorting out the fuel pump fuse)
Replace the DME relay
Reattach the distributor cap
Replace the ignition coil
Replace the reference sensors
I do have the contact information for a dismantler and a specialist shop in the area, so I want to have them replace the oil filter housing seal. The car is starting to leak oil pretty badly, and that was the only area of concern that came up with a PPI.
Dale replaced the O2 sensor wire, replaced the brand new Chinese CV shaft (which literally broke within a week of installation) with a Porsche remanufactured one, and replaced the DME computer to get the car operational for me again. My current to-do list includes:
Swap on the performance exhaust that came with the Lindsey Racing performance package
Replace the O-ring in the fuel cap, and maybe the fuel filler neck (it sloshes fuel down the side of the car if I fill it up and corner hard)
Wash and detail the car (I've been driving it to work in the rain, but it's beautiful now!)
Finally got the rear reference sensor bolt back in!

Dan, that picture was actually taken at 70+ mph on the freeway! The Pixel line of phones have pretty phenomenal cameras, and my boyfriend snapped that shot while we were driving home together.
