Default VEMS and Clutch/Flywheel selection

Hello,

I know that this topic has come up within other threads, but I'd really like to know what works with VEMS.

I have a VEMS kit inbound and a 951 track. Car. New motor with about 400 whop.

I'd like to just rebuild my spec stage 3 hybrid with the alum pressure plate and Fidanza flywheel. I have the pull style with OEM fork.

Will I have issues with a full size aluminum flywheel from fidanza or spec? Seems most issues are with folks who have tried "push" style clutches and scalloped flywheels.

Please let me know what has been working. Thanks!

I was one of the unlucky few that had trigger issues with the factory flywheel set up. I ended up using a TTV lightweight 60-2 flywheel with KEP Stage 1 pressure plate and Sachs Cup/Sport disc. This works very well with just the stock speed sensor in the stock bracket.

OK, but that sounds like a 968 or S2 flywheel. Did you also purchase a clutch kit spec'd for a 968/S2 ? If that works, not a bad idea as it would seem to send a better signal...

The TTV Racing flywheel is a 60-2 flywheel designed to use the stock larger turbo clutch whereas the 60-2 S2 flywheel uses the stock smaller clutch from the S2.

Thanks. That makes sense. TTV looks like a nice piece.
Now to build a PP and disk around it to support 400whp for track application.
Would you go spec stage 3 or build up a KEP.

What kind of power are you making with this clutch if you care to share?

I'm making 370hp/370ftlb at the wheels. Kennedy engineering rate the Stage 1 pressure plate to 530ft lb with an organic disc such as the cup disc. This has shown no sign of slipping at all, and has lovely factory like engagement with just slightly firmer pedal. The TTV flywheel and KEP pressure plate are also very light, now I just need to breath on the throttle for rev matching. Couldn't be happier with this combo, and I dare say it would be just fine for your 400whp goal as well.

Is the TTV flywheel supplied without a starter ring gear fitted?

The starter ring goes on the pressure plate. Unbolt it from your old PP and bolt it to the new one, should fit any PP designed for a 951.

Really appreciate the help as I am new to this platform ! I ordered the ttv 60-2 flywheel today and my torque should be in the 375 area on the new motor so I’ll go with your setup I think as I like what you have described above

No worries, happy to help. What you'll need to have is one of the speed or reference sensors sitting in the reference sensor hole of the stock sensor bracket so it's reading the 60-2 teeth on the TTV. That sensor has to be plugged into the speed sensor plug on the loom.

Here are my trigger settings for the TTV, that'll get you started. Just double check with a timing gun and using the ignition lock feature, and adjust the 'TDC after trigger' angle if needed.

I've never looked at a 944 clutch, thanks.
