Did it come like this stock?
So I purchase a 1986 944 turbo with 46,000 original miles. Took the wheels off today just to clean everything up and paint....noticed what looks like to me a 1 inch wheel adapter on the front. Did it come like this stock? https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...63f280510.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...c52b8012b.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...acfaeaf34.jpeg |
No, that's a spacer.

It's not a stock item, somebody added it, i.e. it's a wheel spacer to get the wheel further out for a more aggressive look.

That is neither an adapter nor a spacer. That is the hub.
On the early cars the rotor was mounted on the backside of the hub. The hub should be regularly inspected for cracks and other defects. The paint must be removed to do a Zyglo crack test. I personally would remove and inspect, is the paint hiding something? When you remove the hub, you should replace those studs, they look pretty beat. Somebody did paint the hub and non-swept portion of the rotor, and not very well. Car looks great, BTW. |

glad you guys chimed in that that was the hub.

It’s a hub. That’s what many don’t like about 86 and earlier offset wheels. You have to remove the front hub to replace the front disc as well as unbolt the disc from the backside of the hub. That’s pretty clean.. |
Sorry about that.
|
Correct, that is 100% stock.
|
Thanks everyone! |
Nice find on the car! Another white and (relatively) low-mileage. Is that Pearl White?
