Default Anyone Running 245/45-17 Tires? **Pic Request**

I know it's not the proper size but I love the Michelin Super Sports I have now so I want to try their 4S which is not available in the proper 255/40 size. I'm currently using 245/40's on the rear of my car and they look slightly small as the tread wears down, not horrible but not completely "correct." Also, my speedo/odometer is off more than I like. (On the good side, I'm guessing the acceleration must be a bit quicker as if using slightly shorter gearing!) I just want to make sure the 245/45's don't rub (probably not as our cars sure are generous with wheel room) and also how they look.

Anyway, I wish Michelin would produce proper "Porsche" sizing as even Singer was using PS2's fairly recently, which is a pretty outdated tire compared to the SS and 4S.

Wish I could afford Pilot Sport Cups but their price and wear rate would be very excessive....

What comparable tires in the correct 255/40 size are you guys using? I've had Michelins for quite awhile now, starting with PS, then PS2's and now the Super Sports. Each evolution has gotten better but the SS's are a very big step from the PS2's and with much better wear, going from a 200 to a 300 tread wear rating. From what I've read, the 4S is a step up in grip in both wet and dry with an even better tread wear which must have them approaching soft compound grip levels with all-weather wear from a few years ago.

Thanks for the pics and help.

I've been running Continental ExtremeContact Sports for the last year. They compared favorably to the Michelin Pilot Sports but are less expensive and offered in more sizes. I run them on the street and the occasional track day. Very good grip and very predictable. Front is 235/45/17 and rears are 255/40/17. Rears look a bit narrow but the rear Kinesis rims are 10" which is at the outer limit of the spec for that size. I could have gone wider but wanted to keep the front/rear differential in line with the original spec.

I put the 4S on my 996 and have about 40 miles on them, OMG, I have never had a car transform so much with a tire......never.

I have the Continental ExtremeContact Sports on the 951, they are "okay"....but they sure don't feel like the 4S on the 996!

I can't really answer your question, but just wanted to comment on the tires.

A 245/45-17 shouldn't rub on the rear. That's what I use for a front tire.

I run them all the way around on 8.5" boxster twists.

If you track to car or drive spiritedly, I'd suggest going with a lower profile.
I once tried 2 different sizes of Hoosier R6s back-to-back on the front of my car (245/45/17 and 245/40/17). Steering feel and grip levels were very different. The 45 sidewall felt like they were flopping over, though inflation pressures were about the same as the other tire.
